Problem with typing - in save game name and CLUA console

Hi, I'm experiencing a problem with BG2 at the moment that I'm finding very annoying - essentially every time I open something that can be typed in (the save game box or console in particular) it instantly starts filling with full stops like .................... and will not stop, unless I hold control but then I cannot type anything. I'm not sure what caused this - it's started well into my most recent playthrough, all I'm thinking is that it could be a possible result of me enabling the cheat keys so that I can ctrl+J my way around the world. Only mods installed are the fixpack and the widescreen mod. Thanks to anyone who can help me!

you probably have the "." button pressed. Check the mouse cable or other objects near the keyboard.
