BG:EE
BG:EE
To be clear: the game doesn't feature any of BGII/ToB's improvements, like kits? It's a polished BG with some extra quests?
How's the mod support?
I'm trying to figure out wether or not to buy this.
Thanks in advance!

it's enhanced build of bg2:tob engine, so it features all it's improvements and kits (and a new blackguard kit) as far as character builds go.
the quests are bg1 + totsc + blackpit + 3 new npcs with their quest lines.
overhaul repeatedly said they were working with moders to make the game, if not compatible, at least easy to adapt to and easier to mod in the future. as far as i know, some of them were also beat testing it.

It's a certainty I'll get it, when SoA and ToB.EE comes out, but not before.

Ok so i really don't know whether i should buy this or skip. I find the new npcs and the before mentioned kits interesting but if it's "classic" BG and you can reach 7-10 levels i don't know if a wild mage or even a monk is worth playing(not to mention the kits) because they suck on low levels. Thoughts?

While I can't answer the mods or Gatekeeper questions just yet, I can say that they did change the stacking of some items. Darts for example can now stack up to 80, instead of the standard 20 (BG1) or 40 (BG2).
I would guess that Gatekeeper is incompatible though, since there are changes to the core elements such as classes and races.
Szenhidrat - I didn't see any for of changes to the classes in terms of scaling - most of them are unchanged from BG2. While a Wild Mage may be difficult, that's part of the fun... as for Monk, well, let's just say that you won't be having much difficulty if you focus on his strengths.

Gatekeeper won't work since its the BG2 engine, and Shadowkeeper needs some fiddling with since the files are in different locations now (saves under My Documents, etc.)
But the console is still there, Shadowkeeper still works with a few tricks, and the game has gotten the fixpack fixes and much more so its worthwhile to get for the interface and widescreen and fixes all in one package instead of having to deal with 3+ mods for the same effect and not getting the new interface + zoom option
I LOVE the journal change, god that is good to have and I can't see myself go back to the old BG1 journal again.

Yeah you are probably right. When i think about it this way a little bit of challenge will be a breath of fresh air compared to the new genre of "rpgs". Okay, i'll give it a try.
as i understand, the engine is the same for all platforms - meaning that all platforms get the same bug fixes, UI enhancements, kits...Bluestorm wrote:any body know if the game is the same between pc and ipad, i know there is more to download for the ipad to make the same as on pc.... i just asking about the core game you get. like they say over 400 improvement is that for all the platforms
not included into the ipad and andrioid $10 purchase are just two of the companions (and their quests), new portraits and new sound packs.
I have not been impressed with the Enhanced Edition. The new UI does not match the original game's art style at all, the new cutscenes are poorly done and look like cheap Flash animations, the new features are minor at best, and playing fullscreen stretches the image so you end up with a blurry-looking mess unless you play windowed mode. Plus, it crashes often and it's very, very buggy. The only good part about it is the updated journal and new characters, but even that is hardly worth the asking price.

While I can understand the disappointment with EE, I think it accomplished the goal. Personally, I haven't had any crash issues and to me, the graphics look no worse than the original BG2 games (I suspect that the zoom feature may be there for the iPad).
You are essentially playing the same old BG, but with new paper dolls, certain spell effects and certain other additions (BG2 classes/kits, races and spells as well as the new NPCs). I don't mind the interface at all - the journal aside, I was really happy to see that I can now view the status information (AC calculations, attacks per round, etc.) on the inventory screen.
The one issue that I did notice right away is the scaling of the classes - it's exactly the same as in BG2... except lowered to level one. What I mean by that is a character like a Monk would be slow to progress through the games if they rely on their class abilities alone, but a Half-Orc Barbarian is a force to be feared with 23 Strength and Constitution, as well as all those immunities, with bonus health to boot!
I don't think that $20 is a terrible price - it's hardly anything these days. The developers did let us know ahead of time what we can expect and the reasons as to why they couldn't just overhaul the whole game. It's still very much our BG1, just with additions and content updates.

I haven't spoken to anyone IRL who hadn't had some kind of issue running it. Those who were able to get it running felt like it didn't really add anything to the original, let alone enhance. The existing mod community does more to improve the game than EE does.

Is there any info about if and when there could be a SToA: ee ?
Right Speech has four aspects: 1. Not lying, but speaking the truth, 2. Avoiding rude and coarse words, but using gentle speech beneficial to the listener, 3. Not slandering, but promoting friendliness and unity, 4. Avoiding frivolous speech, but saying only what is appropriate and beneficial.
The main gripe I have with sitting down with the vanilla BG game is the bad graphics (640x480 don't look so nice anymore...) and compability issues with win7. But from what I understand, all of that can adressed with mods, so, why anyone should bother with EE is beyond me. Though I must admit the colors and enviorments of BG:EE looks mighty impressive - I doubt I could get it to look that good with mods. And yes, I consider graphics important in games - especially roleplaying games - because it's easier to immerse oneself into the game world if the game also looks nice.
Selinde Truesword- I am clearly deranged. Look who I travel with! Minsc, meet the Pirate Lord!
Minsc- Pirate Lord? Such a name does not conjure images of righteous behavior. Stand still a moment and let Boo have a look at you.
