Mask of the Betrayer - console settings all jumbled up!!

Post by DoubleDutch1971 »

Hello, managed to play way I like it for a few hours and then the next playing session had all my settings wrong, especially the camera angle settings is driving me bonkers. Been trying to adjust the settings for nearly 4 hours last nite and nothing seems to work as its should. Reg the camera its sort of stuck in 'a square'. Previously I used my mouse to rotate the camera 360, now it moves like its stuck in a cubicle. Also the camera used to go up and down, through walls and ceilings I was able to move with my arrow keys. But now it doesnt seem to go up and down 'fully'? I tried the 'free camera' setting etc, Im seriously considering throwing this expansion pack in a dark drawer if I cant get my settings back. Help please??

Which mode are you in?

There are 3 (green colored) tabs next to your Quick Tab bar at the bottom: Exploration, Strategy, and Character Mode. All 3 settings can be altered in the Game Options settings for their respective options setting tab. (..click on NWN icon bottom left, Options, and then Game Options if you need to make an alteration. I personally leave these at the default settings.)

The way it's designed to be played is:

95% of the time in Character Mode. Point and left-click ONLY for movement, (..do not use WASD, which works but is terribly awkward in this game). This is in contrast to Dragon Age which works better with WASD.

Action sequence (like a fight) - Pause and switch to Strategy Mode (scroll out) - queuing-up actions for characters and then switching back to Character Mode and "un-pausing".

In Character Mode you should be able pan-around from a "behind the character" perspective (classic 3rd person perspective). Of course it's slow panning if you want to move in an opposite direction from that of your character's forward facing position. In the Game Options Tab for Character Mode make sure that "Camera follows when turning in place" is NOT checked. If it is checked then un-check it, hit the Apply Changes button at the bottom and then the Accept button at the bottom.

Strategy gives you more of that classic "top-down" view for setting up your actions before battles. It's also good to switch briefly into this mode at the beginning of loading a "map". (..because your characters are all bunched-up at the doorway.) Again, pause, scroll-out, queue actions, switch back to Character Mode, and finally un-pause. (..I should note that sometimes your character is so close to a doorway when entering a "map" that Strategy mode only shows the ceiling or floor - in those instance I do use the "W" to push my character forward just enough so that Strategy Mode "works" again.)

As for Exploration - don't use it, I've found it to be a FUBAR'ed version of Strategy Mode.

Just as an added note:

-at one time the updates removed the Exploration tab. (..or at least that is what a few others have perceived based on the addition in the wikia.)

However, I've always used the disc update (connect online), and their expansion packs, and don't believe that the Exploration tab was ever removed from my game..
