First time poster but have been lurking for years. I am playing through BGII/TOB for the 5,000th time as a solo sorcerer. I frequently read BG sorcerer threads and guides at various internet locations and see the same thing repeated over and over again. I've finally had enough and want to throw in my 2 cents, so here it is:
Dispel Magic is good for a solo sorcerer and Remove Magic is not so good. There....I said it!! Why? Because you can cast Project Image/Alacrity/Time Stop/unload spellbook in a few seconds THEN have the image walk a safe distance from your incapacitated sorcerer and cast Dispel Magic on itself. It dispels itself every time and gives you back control of your character (you can then proceed to cast another Project Image and repeat the process if anything is still standing). The best part is you don't have to stand around waiting for your image to unsummon.
If you accidentally dispel your own buffs, so what? Everything is probably dead after the insane nuking you just administered.
I don't know how solo sorcerers that choose Remove Magic instead can stand it.
Thanks
Mark
Dispel Magic for solo sorcerer
In confined spaces Dispel Magic will mess you up, and with sorcerer's limited spell picks you can not take both. One might argue that dispel magic is useful for removing debuffs from yourself and removing your project image..
But.
If you go the cheesy project image route (in vanilla, no less!), you might as well summon two images with Chain Contingency, and after they unleash hell (don't forget to replenish your spells with spell trap) have them take each other out, or even use a - wait for it - scroll of dispel magic, that is not wasted on your MC.
As for debuffs.. Avoidance is the key.
