GOG version OC unplayable on win 7 64?
Does anyone know of anybody who has got through the OC with the GOG version on win 7 64bit?
I've tried everything I know & the game is unplayable.

Yes.
The game plays, it's just that it has so many game breaking bugs, I can't get through it.
I have redownloaded the game & verified the files.
Have tried giving administrator rights to all the exe's
GOG support says it was due to UAC, I turned that off completely, & my anti virus software & reinstalled the game.
Not in C:\ProgramFiles(x86)..........
Most of the corruption seemed to come from games not saving properly.
I tried playing continually & leaving the game on pause overnight so I wouldn't have to load a saved game & still got a game braking bug in Act III.
In the 8 or 10 times I've started a new game, I have never had the crossroads keep segments work properly once.
I asked on the GOG forum for anyone who had got through it & so far the only person I know of, who said it was buggy but he got through on Vista 32bit.

Ah, that's a bit different then.
The only true bug that I know of is the "familiar" bug, and this is only for the OC. (..assuming a complete install of all campaigns/updates, and no add-ons.)
Once a game save is corrupted, that's it. Doesn't mean it won't play, but often will screw-up sequences effecting plot progression at some point - making the game unplayable. (..of course I've also had corrupted saves as well that wouldn't even load.)
Here is my post on the "familiar" bug:
http://www.gamebanshee.com/forums/threa ... ds.123393/
That loading screen note of: "save early, save often" is pretty important.
I tend to save at 2 spots per character level, one of which is right before level-up (4, 5, 6..). (i.e. Character level 3.5, 4, 4.5, 5, 5.5, etc..)

Are you saying that the retail version does this as well?
The GOG version on Win 7 64 is an Entomologist's delight.
There is a limit to how many times you can keep going back to old saves & trying again, only to hit a different game ending bug.
Likewise, there is a limit to how many times you can start a new game & seldom get past half way.
3 x out of 10 I have made it to Act III.
Yes, it does that on the retail version. It's the only major (game-breaking) bug that was never fixed to my knowledge. (..often people believe they have all sorts of strange new "bugs", when in fact they only have this one that spawned other problems.)
It's listed as "Vanishing Companions" here:
http://nwn2.wikia.com/wiki/Game_engine_bugs
Again though, IF that's your problem it's pretty simple to avoid it in a new game (..more difficult to trace it down and reload before it occurred in a saved-game grouping). It's also not a problem in MOTB or SOZ.
Note that saves that cannot actually load are likely corrupted for some other reason (..like a file/memory management issue that occurred when trying to save). This happens to me on occasion and has nothing to do with a "bug".
One of the things that isn't a major problem, but is incredibly annoying IMO is the extremely poor path-finding that characters have with SOZ installed. (..and it wasn't good to begin with, but SOZ just puts both the OC and MOTB into the toilet in this respect.) Again though, not a game-breaker.

Yeah that definitely sounds like something else then. Bummer.
Sounds like I'm in for some pain on this game alone in about 6 months or so (when I start in on a Windows 8 64 bit build).
Here is info on a "clean" install:
http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic ... ex/3116296
..and possibly your re-install wasn't "clean" enough.
Thanks for your effort Scottg,
But my clean install went further than that, I installed it to a different directory & different hard drive.
Both SSD's reported in healthy condition.
I ran chkdsk & sfc/scannow & checked my memory with memtest pro for 400% without error.
I reinstalled the SDK for directX & reinstalled the Visual C++ 2005 & 2008 Redistributables (both 32 & 64 bit)
I couldn't apply the patches as discribed, because the GOG version comes fully patched.
Windows 8 64bit with the GOG version seems to crash a lot, but I haven't had that with Win 7

Installation of the game is one thing, but the saves, overrides, etc.. are all on the C drive (or should be). For my install it's in the "Documents" section for my "user". For this folder I would NOT recommend an alternate location. The "Default" approach is usually less prone to failure.
Under this particular context - have you searched to see if you have competing NWN2 folders? (..again, not the program file folder.)
Did you clean the registry as well?

Then I have no idea. Hopefully the GOG community will have some.

Well I got right through the OC with only one bug (Garius not summoning the nightstalker) fixed it with the console.
Not sure which of the following made the difference, maybe both.
In my event viewer, I had "The ScRegSetValueExW call failed for FailureActions with the following error: Access is denied."
If you use AVG free & you have that, go into AVG settings /AVG Self Protection / & uncheck AVG self protection.
If you have an Asus motherboard & have the following warning:
Security Event ID: 6281
Code Integrity determined that the page hashes of an image file are not valid. The file could be improperly signed without page hashes or corrupt due to unauthorized modification. The invalid hashes could indicate a potential disk device error.
File Name: \Device\HarddiskVolume1\Windows\System32\sxs.dll
That is caused by the Asus Realtek audio driver.
sfc /scannow will show there is nothing wrong with sxs.dll (but still worth eliminating )
I uninstalled the Realtek driver in Device Manager & rebooted & let windows install it's default HD Audio driver.
It may be that you can get a driver from Realtek themselves that doesn't cause this warning, Asus is known for modifying drivers & not always for the better.
But for the purpose of getting Neverwinter Nights 2 sorted, I just went with the Win 7 drivers.

OMG.
That's a "world of hurt".
I've had OS crashes due to sound drivers (..particularly Chrome and Flash), but never NWN2 crashes from it. I have however had environment effects from sound bug-out on me several times, but it never crashed NWN2 and I don't think it ever ruined a save file. I was using a creative labs card though, not on-board (..I don't trust on-board, perhaps now for good reason).
Anyway, good to here some degree of resolution!
