Icewind Dale II, Solo, level 1, Heart of Fury Mode can be done!

Post by imperium2335 »

Hi,

I have just started IWD2 after I played it about 10 years ago, great game!

I have read a lot of posts about how HoF mode is impossible to do solo with a fresh level 1 character.

I have been able to do it tonight! sorta...

I did it with a sorcerer and using summonings. The first goblin at the top left is just about killable with 4 summoned monsters, it takes a bit of luck to get just enough damage to kill him before your monsters disappear.

You then get to level up due to the insane amount of XP you get and your on your way to being able to solo everything, just keep getting summoning spells.

Kill all goblins outside as they are the easiest to do and you'll get your level up.

The house with the cats in is easy as the goblins are distracted by the cats, rush in, summon monsters, easy.

The warehouse is a little more tricky, I did it by casting mirror image, rush in and cast a monster or two, then cast invisibility. MI buys you time to get your monsters up and to vanish. You can then cast more monsters once the goblins are focused on your first monsters.

Once your able to cast raise dead you get greater bone guards which slice n dice everything, add to that haste, cats grace and bull strength you have yourself a goblin blender :)

I'm about to move out of Targos now, my lone sorcerer is level 16, I'll keep you updated if people take an interest in this post!

Cool, I'd like to hear about the solo run. I think it's been done before so you are not the first and it can be done. I tried and never left targos docks I was just testing. I have trouble the vanilla game and 6!! Are you still getting xp from killing creatures? Are you strong enough to fight all the orcs?

Not sure I am probably going to play a little in a few minutes and I'll let you know. I'm getting about 300xp from the last few goblins I killed and bigger XP from more powerful goblins like the named ones.

It feels a little like playing pokemon using the summons all the time lol

What is the level cap for IWD2?

Cool, the level cap is 30. You can stay unleveled up in the game and you get more xp. You could create a dummy 'mule' to just stay on the map invisible and you get xp as for the average of you and the dummy. Of course you could just grant xp with a cheat so I am not sure you want to go that way.

I want it to be a vanilla as possible, so I won't be using any cheats or tools etc. I have been leveling up as the levels become available.

I have killed all the orcs and I just talked to some woman about her village being taken hostage.

So far so good, has started to get a little challenging particularly when entering new areas where you have to fight enemies straight away. Nothing a little invisibility doesn't fix though :) I'm at level 21 or 22 I can't remember, might switch class to cleric now that I have reached level 9 spells, any thoughts on that?

You could take monk1 paladin1? You might want more spell selection and I am not sure what cleric 8 would accomplish? Barb levels would give HP and fighter levels would give feats which you can use as a caster.

So maybe Monk1Pal1F2
