Severed hand ugggh
Wow this is a marathon fed-ex level of the game. I think they tried to draw the content out too much. Very boring to find food thieves and so forth. I am tempted to quit playing
Right Speech has four aspects: 1. Not lying, but speaking the truth, 2. Avoiding rude and coarse words, but using gentle speech beneficial to the listener, 3. Not slandering, but promoting friendliness and unity, 4. Avoiding frivolous speech, but saying only what is appropriate and beneficial.

The worse part of IWD2 has to be Severed Hand chapter, all the errand running has to be the most annoying part of this part of the game and for a last chapter it is really anti-climatic which is a bit sad. Of course there are some nice battles to be had as well if you manage to complete the errands but it is really anti-climatic and for the stronghold of the villains in this story much to easy to get around. For me this was the weakest part of the IWD2 story.
Yeah I am tempted to quit playing and then play another party through to just before the severed hand. It's so hard to figure out what the next step is on the tower. It's like a barrage of data that I can't process. None of the other chapters had something like this. It is a cool vista into a strange world, I mean I like the imagination. Definitely the weakest part. I'm going to really have to think about if I want to finish the game [edit I am thinking of quitting].

Don't quit just yet, there are really only a few necessary quests you need to complete in order to get to the final villains - all the small quests and mysteries you can ignore if you want - but you have to get rid of the guardian demons and as such free the slaves so that they can escape (you also need 6 priest amulets); free the prisoners (the priest) in the cleric tower; do the ritual; open the mage tower to speak to Orrick (as you need a piece of one quest in the mage tower); speak to the drow merchant and do what she wants; stop the delegate from meeting I and M (is the final step); and then you get to battle I and M and finish IWD2. It seems like a lot of running around and it is to some degree but it goes pretty fast once you round up all the small pieces needed to do the priest ritual it picks up speed and you are almost at the finish line.
Yeah thanks I managed to clear the game. You actually don't need to go to the cleric's tower with the holy symbols of xvim. You can just gather the Ilmatar ritual stuff that is pretty easy. Then destroy the globe and taint the pool with holy water. It took me some time pouring over the walkthroughs to sort out what I really needed to do. Sorcerer's palace has a more insightful appearing text than GB. The worst thing is how long it takes to go up and down stairs. I hit level 16 exactly before the final battle with enough time to prepare new spells. Fun fun fun.
Woo hoo thanks for encouraging me to finish now I can say I played the game to the end. I did lower the difficulty just to speed up the process.
I've finished 3 games in a row (skyrim and titanquest-underlord mod) also. Took me 20 days I believe to finish IWD1

Better than me!
I slogged through this game (a decade ago) and got across the bridge and into the Severed Hand - only to have it crash hard on me with no recent save. Just gave up at that point..
I'm not sure what combination of elements displeased me, but I distinctly remember NOT liking the game.
At some point I'll go back and do Dale I (which I've never done).. at least it's based on 2nd edition rules (..which I prefer).

One is uber-cool, taking your first impression from two is unfortunate. Just try without Heart of Winter first.
Yes, the Severed Hand quests are a pain in the unmentionables. I remember the first time I played I was pretty much WTFing through most of them. I was able to cope because I was still enjoying the wonderful atmosphere the place generates. My advice to anyone who gets to the top ring of the tower is to just grab a walkthrough from that point and do it by the book, regardless of any moral issues that might generate, as the game as a whole deserves better than that for an ending anyway.
