Scanner Update

It's definitely USB port... I could install my scanner's CD ROM, but was asked WIN98 at the end. Then I got a message "Usbscan.sys; DRIVER20.C cannot be found". what's that mean?

I must have done something wrong when I reinstall Windows... :(

Reformat hard drive? What's the problem? That's an awful extreme solution.

Thank you. :)

I'm back in my London flat. I need my scanner in order to scan one or two things for my friend, because I promised. A few months ago, I had to format and reinstall my entire contents of the hard drive. And I didn't touch my scanner then. Now, I need it, so try to install my CD ROM for my Scanner (USB port connection).

After I nearly finish my installing process, it asks me Win98 CD ROM, which I inserted. However, it does not read it, for whatever reason. (My CD ROM has no problem at all.) It says "Usbscan.sys; DRIVER20.C is missing", and I cannot use my scanner. :(

@Minerva: Reformatting or even reinstalling windows should not be necessary. Have you tried simply reinstalling the scanner? Uninstall first if that is an option. You could also try to plug it in and let windows detect it rather then using the install program on the CD. Lastly, you could look on the scanner manufacturer's web site for the latest installer, which may not have this problem.

I have tried them, except contacting the manufacturer (I could use this scanner before, so I don't think this is anything to do with the scanner or CD).

When I restart my computer with my sdanner on, the computer detect the new hardware. Then ask me the CD, it cannot find something, then ask Win98 CD. Then it gave me the above message.

I had to use Alt+Ctrl+Dlt to restart computer, because it kept asking me those CD's and refused to start. :(

Do I need a driver for USB port?

"Do I need a driver for USB port?"
That's possible. I can't think of why you would be unable to find this file now if you have installed successfully in the past. You can look at the device manager and see if the USB port shows any errors or conflicts. You can also delete the port as well as the scanner drivers from here in an attempt to install clean.

As far as going to the manuf. website... my thinking was they may have newer version of the installer that may on not give you the problem- even though I know you have gotten it to work before.

Have you searched the CDs and your hard drive for a file of that name?

Sorry :( I need to go for a while. I'll send you a PM if I have any other ideas later.
