The easiest character is probably a melee fighter with a frost weapon.

Sir Edmund: "Should you obey the lord who asks you to put a village of innocents to the torch? Is that chivalrous? Is it noble?"
Me: "It's a great way to get promoted, I know that much."

Frost on a weapon (random bonus) can make the game too easy, though.

A warrior is the easiest class to play (survivor the hardest) and the game is biased towards swords, as far as potentially good weapons that are consistently in the game. Warriors tend to have plenty of skill points to spare (especially if they rely on quest rewards or spell books for any mage skills they want to use), so can easily max a couple weapon expertise.

Thanks!

Okay so I decided to play a magic-heavy character.
How would you build one?

Blind + Hell Spikes is quite effective, once you are a high enough level to get Hell Spikes up to level 4 or 5.
Burning Wall is also very effective, especially against crowds (though you need to get to level 16 to learn it).

The survivor's Curse skill followed by Polymorph or anything doing poison or elemental damage works very well. Unlike the mage's Withering Curse, the survivor's Curse can not be resisted, and can be quickly cast repeatedly on a target (so even level 1 may be all you need).

The starting spell Meteorstrike is good, though you may also need a bow for awhile to help conserve mana. Once you get up a few levels the bonuses from equipment and intelligence will help with mana, and eventually you can start using restoration potions for healing and mana.
