BG 1 EE power-party

Post by Oquin & Terian »

Can anyone suggest 5 good companions for the ORIGINAL CAMPAIGN. I am up to the bandit camp and I can't beat the main "bad-guys" with my current party. I am Considering Dorn, even though he is evil. My party is mainly neutral. Here is my incomplete party:

Me: Sorcerer lvl 3
Neera: Wild-Mage lvl 3
Safana: Thief lvl 2
Rasaad: Monk (needs a replacement) lvl 1

Even though I have played this game before, I have AWFUL taste in companions.

Hm. A little bit of advice: do some more side quests before going into the bandit camp. There are a huge amount of areas between Nashkel and Beregost with many smaller adventures to have (though you must have seen a few of those if you've picked up Safana). That should easily give you one or two levels, and should make the bandit camp easier. Though, for what it's worth, I do recall the bandit camp being a very challenging battle even at an appropriate level.

+1. You're WAY too low a level and probably low on equipment too. Personally, I do every area I can before tackling the bandit camp.
Also, add two melee warriors and replace the Monk with a Cleric. Two Mages in a low level party is VERY hard. Be sure to equip two people for melee, the other four with ranged weapons. Bows are especially good.

Listen to Gawain, he knows what he's talking about. However I'm seriously baffled as to how the heck you got to the bandit camp and only be level 3.

It's because I havent doen Safana's quest yet, so I haven't got those levels. Also, I skimmed through Nashkel Mines pretty quickly so I dont have THOSE levels either. I also Have not done Gnoll stronghold!
So, for a Cleric, would you recommend? Branwen, Eldolth, Jaheira, Quayle, Tiax, Viconia or Yeslick?
And do you think Ajantis is good for melee fighting? I here he is good with a bow...
How about this?

Me: Sorcerer : Chaotic Neutral
Neera: Wild-Mage: Chaotic Neutral
Safana: Thief: Chaotic Neutral
Branwen: Cleric: True neutral
Kivan: Ranger : Chaotic Good ( His quest is to go to Bandit Camp Anyway!)
Ajantis: Paladin: Lawful Good

Yeah....

I hate wild mages, so if it was me I'd kick her/him (not sure which) into the long grass and pick up Imoen (she and Safana can share thieving duties so one picks locks and the other deals with traps), Imoen can be useful with a short bow, and missile weapons are pretty good in BG1.

I second Galraen. Moreover, a second Mage (in BG1) is too much deadweight. Consider replacing that one with a Bard: Pickpockets come in handy, you get a backup caster and they can use Longbows.
I would also replace Branwen with Yeslick, as you're still sorely lacking in the melee department.

My prefered party, for example, is:
Me as whatever I want.
Imoen, dualled to a Mage at Thief 5 or 6, probably 5, only points in Detect Traps & Open Locks. (Stealth/Backstab never seems to work for me.à
Khalid
Jaheira
Kivan
Branwen

Only weakness is the lack of Thief during Imoen's dualling.
Strengths: two (or three, depending on main character) decent to good tanks/melee fighters, a full fledged mage, a thief, a VERY good archer, two decent archers (Imoen with Crossbow of Speed & Branwen), two Divine Casters.

PS The party that the developers intended you to play through the game with was PC, Jaheira, Khalid, Minsc, Dynaheir and Imoen. It's a well balanced party, but probably my least favourite.

I've got Neera (Pic on the left) for Romance, the xp gaining quests and most of all, funny Dialogue. I LOVE funny dialogues. But, maybe you're right... I will maybe replace her with Dorn... I am chaotic neutral anyway, which is closer to evil than it is to good. + Neera and Dorn do not get along. I'll probably replace Rasaad with Imoen, (Imoen has NO funny dialogue, no dialogue at all ( : )

I'd try again with 6 partymember, and higher level and better gear. If you really like certain NPCs, it shouldn't stop you from using them, and the game can be finished with lots of different parties. However, some will have an easier time than others, on which our advice is based.

I used to always play that party back when EE wasn't out!
