Adding CEP Haks to Module

Post by Chippy »

Hi All,

I'm playing a Samurai from the excellent PRC addon, and was impressed by the CEP katana/wakizashi model from the Mordenkainen's Trials mod.
So I want to install the hak files that allow me to modify the appearance of my katana to that, and so be able to get that look in any other module.
Having followed the instructions on the CEP site though, I've failed:

Builders:
1. Download desired full version (latest recommended, of course).
2. Decompress files
- .hak files go into your NWN/hak folder
- - NOTE: If updating from a previous installation, make a backup copy of (or just don't overwrite) your cep2_custom.hak if you've made any changes to it.
- .tlk files go into your NWN/tlk folder (if you don't have one, just add it)
3. Add CEP to your module in the toolset (after making a backup copy)
- Open module in the toolset.
- Go to Edit > Module Properties > Custom Content
- Add latest cep .tlk file (cep23_v1.tlk)
- Add cep2_ hak files (use dropdown list)
- Move hak files into correct order:
- - cep2_top_v24
- - cep2_custom (optional -- empty hak that can be used by PWs for storing blueprints and scripts server-side)
- - cep2_add_phenos5
- - cep2_add_phenos4
- - cep2_add_phenos3
- - cep2_add_phenos2
- - cep2_add_phenos1
- - cep2_add_sb_v1 (optional -- contains scripts and blueprints)
- - cep2_add_tiles2 (optional)
- - cep2_add_tiles1 (optional)
- - cep2_ext_tiles (optional -- use ONLY if you want to overwrite the standard Bioware tilesets - without this you get seperate tilesets)
- - cep2_add_doors (optional)
- - cep2_core7
- - cep2_core6
- - cep2_core5
- - cep2_core4
- - cep2_core3
- - cep2_core2
- - cep2_core1
- - cep2_core0
- - cep2_crp
- - cep2_crp_s (optional)
- - cep2_build (optional)
- Click OK to begin module build.
- Save when finished.

So then I opened the hak files in Mordenkainen's Trials, wrote down which ones used, opened another module, extracted the exact same hak files into it, then saved it under a different name...and failed once again. Have also tried using the cep tlk file (but there's normally one for each specific module, so thought that was a bad idea).

I remember trying this years ago and quitting in rage, but now being older and wiser - thought I'd pose the question before just quitting and using the silly frilly bits attached to the default Bioware Katana's. Unless someone is kind enough to point out where I'm going wrong.

The key to getting it to work are the .tlk file and the 2da files. If you are running any modules that have their own custom .tlk file and 2da, then the files need to be merged. There are tools for doing this at the NWN-Vault, as you can only run one custom .tlk and 2da per game.

So in order to have a samurai with the cool swords you want, you will need to use a merged version of CEP and PRC .tlk and .2da - these can be obtained as seperate files from either PRC download page or from CEP page if memory serves.

Thanks for the reply - I did track down the file, but having installed all relevant haks, used the merge file and running the PRC Module updater, it gives me a abort/error window saying the "module and custom content contain files that cannot be merged".
This reminds me of why I was so amazed at how far the community was able to move the game in different directions, but where I completely lack the inclination to implement those changes into other parts of the game. As an example it took me 1/2 a day to realize that there were files missing in the latest CEP version when the description says it's contained with everything needed in one file.
So thanks again, but I just can't be bothered to put any more effort into it.

If you are really really sold on the wazikashi/katana model, you should consider looking around for an override version of the sword. Most of CEP content is a combination of the work of various modders, so the model you want may be relatively easy to find. I believe older versions of PRC were installable as override versions rather than haks - but that there could be stability issues with some mods, and some classes did not work properly. I used PRC in override to play the Lords of Darkness Mods, which used custom haks and possibly CEP.
