I get the spell scroll Acid Storm from the Wrvynn's nest in Dragon Eye level 1 (and copy to spell book)
- and IF I select it for one of my three spell-slots (level 6 of my spell book), then when moving to another spell level (say 4 or 5), and then moving back again to level 6 spells on my spell book - it removes them permanently with no access to ANY spell at level 6 again that was selected for Acid Storm.
Has anyone come across this before? If so, is there any solution other than simply never selecting Acid Storm (..which is otherwise a very nice spell)?
Acid Storm Bugged?
My last party my mage did not use it iirc, but I had a cleric of talos who did. It was a domain spell and I didn't encounter that bug.
I might try rebooting the computer and going back saves just to see if it helps. Are you patched (or GoG)?

Right Speech has four aspects: 1. Not lying, but speaking the truth, 2. Avoiding rude and coarse words, but using gentle speech beneficial to the listener, 3. Not slandering, but promoting friendliness and unity, 4. Avoiding frivolous speech, but saying only what is appropriate and beneficial.

Wow! That was fast!
It was installed "fresh" from my original discs.. don't know about any patches. (..version 2. something if I remember correctly.)
I'll try to run it back to an earlier save and try and "re-copy" it to my spell book and see if I get the same effect.
EDIT: tried it out (lucky that I had a save for it before copying it to my spell book) - same result. It's BUGGED. (..or it could be that it's not the spell itself, but rather the number of spells memorized for 6th level - which was "saga-length" (25 spells) before copying it to my spell book.) I guess I'll just avoid copying that spell, which is a pity because it's a nice spell.
It's pretty weird, BUT the last time I played this game it also crashed on me (..though for different reasons at a latter point in the game).
Yes see if there is a patch. Did you have trouble with the second level of the goblin warrens? Level six has some awesome spells so you should still be going strong. Mass haste is awesome. Chain lightning for party friendly nukes. Power word silence is good although most mages you can 'chunk' with sicking a tank on them or focusing nukes on them. Another is disintgerate and Shades scales with leveling unlike the monster summoning line.

Just patched it (2.01) - same problem.
The more I think about it, the more I think it's just about the number of spells at that level - and someone screwed-up on the coding.
Yeah, I've got 25 spells at that level - so it's not like I'm deficient or anything. Improved Haste - check. Chain Lightning - check. Power Word Silence - check. Shades - check. Disintegrate - check.
(..in fact I used just 3 spells for my encounter with the Guardian in Chult: Improved Invisibility (on my character), Lower Resistance (on Guardian), Disintegrate (on Guardian).. bye, bye Guardian.) (..and that was without any Transmutation focuses.)
Acid Storm was nice though.. 15d6 of instant "fireball-like spell" over 20 foot radius, which beats Chain Lightening by rather a large amount (..up to 20d6 to target and up to 9d6 for secondaries - with unpredictable secondaries).
BTW, it's a solo character - just Cleric of Mask with Wizard levels.. I haven't gotten Experience Points for kills in *ages* (since before the Ice Temple).

I know I'm some months late from when you posted this, but I haven't ever seen a problem like this playing as a sorcerer.
I once had a bug similar to this though, in Baldur's Gate 2. For some reason my left hand weapons never attacked. I had to uninstall the game and reinstall it to fix it. I suspect now that installing and uninstalling some sort of mod caused this bug.
Perhaps that's the cause of your error to, try uninstalling the whole game and reinstalling it. Make sure the bug is fixed first, then apply any mods and patches you were using.

Remember, being Evil in Baldur's Gate 2 is VERY fun...
