NWN2 Platinum: Rogue Can't Use Magic Devices

Post by Murphypacker »

I have played NWN2 a great deal, after a long life of NWN1 My computer died and I have now one using Windows 7. I installed a new NWN2 Platinum game. It works beautifully except it won't let my rogue use the Level 1 scrolls she gets in Tamas' house in Act 1. They show up red in her inventory. I have run 2 characters, one to this point and one as far as the Swamp Ruins and all scrolls show up red and can't be used by this Rogue. This is a first for me. Is there a patch to correct this? I have tried using Background: Wild Child and not using a background, and Rogue type Rogue Scout and not using it. Neither works. In fact on the second go-around with the second character, I was never given the chance to select my own skills at all, although on my first Rogue I was given that chance.

Does this ring a bell with anyone? Would appreciate any help.

In a patch they changed the UMD points needed to read scrolls. Try googling the console commands to raise the level and UMD and see if that is true.
Right Speech has four aspects: 1. Not lying, but speaking the truth, 2. Avoiding rude and coarse words, but using gentle speech beneficial to the listener, 3. Not slandering, but promoting friendliness and unity, 4. Avoiding frivolous speech, but saying only what is appropriate and beneficial.

Thanks so much for replying! I will just be patient and feed my Rogue more UMD skill points!

My rogue is now Level 5 and has 10 points in UMD. Claudius, or anyone, do you know at what point she will be able to use a magic device? Are bards similarly affected in NWN2Platinum? I don't want to waste any more time with this character if she is never going to get this skill, as I think the Rogue is too weak without it.

OK, thanks, Claudius. She has a Rod of Frost that is not redded out, but all other scrolls are. Some of them I would consider minor, such as Identify and Sleep. But I will try and see what she can do. As long as I have this much hope!

A bard would have higher charisma so it is easier. It requires a lot of levels of UMD. For example a 6th level spell needs 23 UMD so with average starting charisma you would have to be 20th level.
