How do you unlock doors, chests etc.?

Post by xraygord »

Is there a way to open locked items?

My PC does not have the ability to do this. I have tried attacking a chest. That didn't work. Do I have to find a key, or is there another way of opening these things?

Thanks.

Attacking them should work, but damages your weapon. Some weapons are immune to the damage, but they can be hard to get, best bet is to equip weapons you don't mind losing. Some followers can be good lock pickers, make sure you both have picks, yours has to go into a quick slot, try and pick and your follower should then automatically take over.

The easiest solution is to get to Ashbury as quickly as possible (train from Tarrant is the quickest) and rescue the worthless mutt. He's far from worthless, best fighter you can get and his teeth don't take damage from biting open chests and doors  . Only problem with him is that he's so good at fighting he makes your character redundant, you just become his seeing eye man/woman!

Force-attack them by pressing alt and clicking them.
Axes & Hammeres are immune to damage, IIRC. You could also equip decent gloves and attack them unarmed.
Ranged weapons work, but consume ammo.
Damaging magic works too.
There's also a lvl 2 spell which unlocks doors and chests.

Thank guys. Yeah, just learning about these spells now.

I will have to try attacking again. Didn't seem to be working for me.
