Hi everyone!!
I've put 50 hours on Skyrim and I noticed a few things that I don't like (better than Oblivion, of corse, but some cheesy things nonetheless).
Based on the below points I wandered the web looking for mods. Initially for my second playthrough but now I've been asking myself if I need to start anew with several mods installed and not ruining my game....
Any suggestion from the more advanced player out there?
Thank you very much in advance!!
1) Every now and then when I level up things get rough. I mean I wandered aimless for the first 10+ hours and everything was really hard as they should be. Then I level up and get easy. Then I level up some more and get hard again. And so on. And so on...
2) The leveling up. I really liked the fact that Oblivion forced me to sleep to get Skills. Now there's no need to sleep anymore. In fact I sleep just for roleplaying purpose, but as lazy as I am, I tend now to not doing anymore.
4) the magic system... There's something wrong about it. I mean I'm doing the Mage Quests and more and more I resort to archery and blade, using my spells only as a secondary effect or just to feel the combat less boring. BUT when it comes to kill I know I need my bow (for sneak-kill everything or my trustful blade). I would like indeed to play a pure mage character for my second play through but I don't see why (don't have Open Lock spell nor Cure disease)
5) Enchanting is something broken for me...
6) Spellcraft where art thou?
7) the inventory!!! At first I thought it was sloppy, but then it worked for the time. Now I have in my home three chest full of things (which I cannot sell - further down the list) divided for Weapons/Apparel, Potions/Ingredients, Stuff. And finding a potion saved for later is like finding a needle in the hay...
8) The economics: One of my MUSTHAVE mod for Oblivion was the realistic economy one (I don't remember the name). Skyrim needs one too
Through extensive research (based also on this very forum) I intend to install the following mods. Feel free also to make suggestions.

Skyrim to mod or not to mod? That's the question...
Re: Skyrim to mod or not to mod? That's the question...
Now I've unistalled EOS (beware of this mod) and in order to play I copied my previous backup savegame (thanks to the Gods of Precaution who were smiling on me that day!!!) cause you'll need to do that instead of what the modder seems to think.
No scaling stopper for now. I'll stick to the vanilla leveling until someone forge a Francesco's-like. This mod seems to require a lot of collateral mods installed which I'm not interested in.
Classic level-up and Reflection are the best way to play this game in my opinion restoring the need for sleep to advance in your skills. And should be in the mechanics from the beginning but I see why the developers removed it. (In my first dungeons I entered at level 1. 10 minutes later I exited at level 5)
And also better mage (It's more immersive that at the College wizards have all speels to sell. It doesn't change much the balance because I can't spam higer level spell anyway)
I unistalled Duel Mage: Reborn. That's very sad 'cause it was a mod I really hoped to enjoy. It didn't work properly.
I' m interested in Morrowloot there's anyone out there willing to give me his opinion? I'm about to give ML a try sometime in the future with another character.
I think I answered my initial question. Maybe one day will be some more stable and interesting mods. Until that day Skyrim is a game one might/should enjoy vanilla-style.

Re: Skyrim to mod or not to mod? That's the question...
I wouldn't want to miss mods in Skyrim.
Many are optional but some are a must for me.
What would you seek in mods?

That's the question!!!What would you seek in mods?
I think Skyrim needs an overhaul magic mod. Magic (and enchanting) is the worst in Skyrim.
I don't really know why, but playing a pure mage (no armor, no weapons) for me was unsatisfying. Now I'm playing a two-handed/heavy armored warrior and it's gratifying and powerful.
Am I the only one?
@Dummy: What are your mods? What do you seek?
Right now I'm playing with:
- Classic Level-Up (sleeping needed for adding perks)
- Reflection (the cool messages from the previous games after level up)
- SkyUI (because the vanilla one is frustrating)
- a minor mod for leveling up Smithing with Smelters and Tanning Racks ('cause I had the Warrior Stone and it took me a lifetime to do it. And lore-wise I use Smelters and Tanning Racks for Smithing...)
- Dance of Death (I like the cinematic fatalities)
After hours and hours of wandering the "wasteland" of Skyrim, I decided to test out the ETaC mod (Expanded Towns and Cities), but just for Dragon's Pass, Ivarstead, Morthal and Winterhold, and for now I'm very happy with it.
In my next play through I'll use the full mode to expand every settlement, town and city. (And a better fast travel mod)
Re: Skyrim to mod or not to mod? That's the question...
I recommend SPERG, which changes the perktrees for the better and allows changing of the leveling rate. It also adds more ways to level smithing, which is a pain otherwise.
Re: Skyrim to mod or not to mod? That's the question...
@GawainBS: I watched what SPERG does and I'll give it a try in my next play through, when I'll try the Dark Brotherhood quest line. Thx for the hint! (Although I don't have a real problem with choosing the perks. BUT I think some of them needs to be redone like Alchemy and Speechcraft)
So...
I've finished the Main Quest line after 200 hours of gameplay and creating a second character for the purpose.
I made a 2-handed Heavy Armor Warrior Khajiit. Best experience so far. First time I played a pure warrior in a Bethesda game.
Now I'm playing as a Nord Thief using mainly sneak speech pickpocket and alchemy and as for main weapon Bows and Arrows. I'm having much fun just doing the thief jobs and the occasional interesting quests for my character. Mainly I don't do exploring the wildness of Skyrim, but I just travel and sell stuff
The ESSENTIAL mods for this I find to be these:
- Alternative Start - Live another life (It's the best once you have done the main quest. Adding so many ways to start a real roleplaying experience. Right now I've started the game as a patron of the Bee and the Barb in Riften)
- Thief Guild Requirements (I want to earn my place on the Guild)
- Better Fast Travel (I don't want to fast travel with clicking on the map and I don't want to ride my horse all the way back to Riften from Solitude after a number job...)
- ETAC complete (Best mod so far. With this Skyrim feels like a real country instead of a wasteland. The texture are a little weird sometimes but in the whole is a MUST. Real immersive)
- Immersive Weapons and Armors (I gave it a try for giving a new feel to the game. So far most of the new weapons are cool and not game-breaking except for some of them that look strange on npc, but all in all that's better that the same leather armor for half of the people.)
- Less Tedious Alchemy (Alchemy now is a useful skill that rewards the player that spends points in it)
- Treebalance - Speech tree (An overhaul mod of the speech tree)
I still think the best mod for Skyrim will be a clever overhaul magic mod... I don't know what do you think? Do you think Magic is fine? or need to be modded? I appreciate some external thoughts on this.
