IWD: ee - questions

Post by magisensei1 »

Hi everyone,

I recently just found out that an enhanced edition of IWD and baldurs gate was released and I have some questions about IWD.

a) is there a forum here to discuss IWD: EE? I couldn't find one so I am using the old forum.

b) I imagined someone has played it already - so how were the new character classes as you went through IWD?

c) is it worth picking up as I have the original?

d) this is a more technical issue about the site - did you know when you go to the IWD walkthrough page and scroll down to where the forum button is - it doesn't send you to the forum page but to an error page - something about going through a wrong door.

While on the topic of IWD - as a sort of wow a release of IWD:ee - even though it has been out already for 2 years - I will give IWD a run through again and play it classes I've never tried before.

e) one last question - I read about switching backstabbing for sneak attack in the original IWD - but can't seem to figure out how to do it on the game - does anyone remember?

a) I'm sure you can use the old forum, but honestly, I have to recommend the Beamdog fora. (The creators of the EE.) Sadly, The GB forum is a bit quite nowadays.
b) No clue, as I haven't used any of the new classes, but I can see Barbarians & Monks working well in the higher levels. Also, it's nice to have kits. Not all kits are useful, though, like the Half-Dragon. The Blackguard seems a solid non-good Paladin replacement.
c) Definitely yes. I didn't regret getting it for a moment. Lots of small quality-of-life improvements, like looting, out-of-the-box widescreen, etc.
d) I can't help you.
e) It's in the Configuration screen, before you launch the game. Your IWD folder should also contain an IWConfig.exe or something.

On a sidenote, consider installing Scales of Balance/Might & Guile: two excellent mods that improve the game mechanics. They're very modular, so you can switch off what you don't like.

Thanks for the quick reply and the mod suggestion I will check it out.

Quick question - if I buy it from beamdog (download) or steam - can you actually mod it? If mods exist, I imagine there is also a new version of keeper as well - as these compatible with the download version of the game - since I have not really seen a CD version available?

Yes, I noticed the site was a bit quiet - but its good to see that it is still up and running and someone is still awake.

I will pick up it then - hopefully this new version got rid of some of the graphic slow downs from the original.

Whichever version you use, it's fully modable. If you want a fully standalone version, go for GoG.
