Wizardry newbie

Am a total newbie to Wizardry and hardcore real RPG games. (I am only used to modern easy to use RPG games like Final Fantasy). Can someone tell me what is the best group to start with in Wizardry 1 please.
And also how to play?

Reading the manual is generally considered a good starter for real RPGs...
