Toughest fight?
Toughest fight?
So, which is the toughest fight in ToB?
Oh, did you all go to baldurdash by the way, they got some patches for the bossbattles making them harder, including the original demogorgon (they downgraded him)

Sigurd, Crazed Cleric of Talos, Servant of Evil.
it seems most people are havign the most trouble with draconis, btu i whooped up on him pretty easily. my toughest fight was my first time through fighting the last battles because i was completely unprepared and wasted so much effort and especially spells on the summoned demons.
tougher balthazar was still a big wuss, and i am about to do the tougher demogorgon so hopefully that'll be tough. personally, i think one of the groups on the level before demogorgon was harder than he was.
once you are prepared, any battle can be a pice of cake, so i give dibs to the end battle(s) for the hardest fight sinc ei played through it without starting over and preparing.

I dont know i think SoA is easy, i kicked golden skulls face (he has no arse), which is the toughest they say but hes easy like hell. Also dragons, every one EASY. And last battle with Irenicus in hell i played it twice and never lost it. I think first BG was harder if ya ask me. The only reason im still playing this game after i completed it 3 or 4 times is cos of jaheira, this freakin romance is the only thing i havnt done (ok ive dont it first time i completed game without probs, it ruled). After i finish this game as Assassin i move on ToB, after i complete ToB i am gonna retire... for a month or two
Only barbarians eat chocolate chip cookies without glass of milk!
Actually, I think I am getting better at this game The battles I used to think were impossible (Draconis for one), I now find to be rather interesting (and the outcome is no longer in doubt...just how many resources I will have to use).
Having said that, I think that the *toughest* battle is the final seal battle (the one *before* you go see big 'D') on the fifth level of watchers keep. I sweat every time I do that battle.
I find the most frustrating battle are the Demiliches....NOT because they are hard but because they are so binary. If you can get that prot from magic scroll on the demilich, then he is worth a FREE 50,000 XP. Otherwise he is just impossible (or some other way to disable his ranged imprisonment which is just *wrong*). In short I find those battles frustrating because they are binary with no real skill involved.

@Polaris-san..(Fezek puts on some fire resistant armor), I thought your toughest battle in ToB was figuring out the right answer to the Solar (Fezek finds nearest door and legs it to another saving location)

I agree with Polaris on the Demilich topic.
The Demiliches infinate imprisonment spellprowess and their seemingly fast casting makes those "battles" irritable.
You can't really get around those using regular battletactics, so I always find myself buying a protection from evil scroll before "battling" them.
Which takes out the fun of those encounters completely.

In TOB... hes a wuss! but that kinda depends on what difficulty you are playing on.Originally posted by 666th_Phantom:

@Doc: Did you know it is possible to fight Yaga-Shura without the aid of his army? All you have to do is, before you get his heart, go to the seige camp, and just fight for a bit. After a while, you end up killing his entire army, and Yaga shura is left only with the three people that join him after he runs.
Aegis is correct. The game makes you think that his army will overwhelm you if you don't take Yaga Shura out immediately, but the fact of the matter is that the game does not spawn unlimited creatures after Yaga Shura runs away.
BTW, this is ALSO true in Amkethran. In order to get into Bathazar's Fortress, you do NOT need to consult EITHER Samaen OR go through the Graveyard. You *can* kill every single monk and mercenary outside the monestary....and you can pick up the key to the monestary that way. It is a lot tougher fight than what was originally indended but very doable (and worth a LOT of XP).

Nael, I am the one, the only creator for the cheapest way to win the twisted rune in BG2.
Use the same tactic to kill off the group above the final seal. The method I submitted to gamebansee forum was to use projected image to cast multiple delayed action fireballs in the area where the twisted rune group jumps in. 6 fireballs and all you have left to do is go collect loot. Someone adopted the same tactic for the final seal guardians and submitted it to the tob walkthru. Just cast about 12 skull traps whrere they gate in, and all you have to do is to loot the bodies.
demi liches are simply a matter of having a mage-warrior capable of casting spell immunity abjuration or the scroll. This time tho, I intend to try a new tactic. have my sorc cast improved invisibility, and spell immunity from divination. I want to see if it can target its ranged imprison on invisible targets. Then at optimum range, cast timestop, greater acuity and throw 6 delayed action fireballs at him. cast timestop and increased acuity again, so it takes affect immediately after the first one runs out, and stack 6 incindiary clouds at him. Massive overkill, should do the trick.
Demogorgon is immune to timestop, however my idea for using increased acuity to allow you to empty the 50 charges in a wand within a few rounds should work. I don't care how tough it it, with 6-10 fireballs or cloudkills pelting you every round, death should happen very quickly. or just simply use project image to cast 12 solars, and have them attack en-masse.
The sorc is the best class. sometimes nothing beats massive overkill.
Does timestop work against melissan?
If so I will try to turn her into a squirrel.
timestop-increased acuity
wand of spell strike in pierce shield mode will also lower resistance x4
4 greater malisons,
timestop runs out, aerie casts polymorph other.
she gets the fun of chasing it around and whacking with crom fyhr.
oh yeah, power word silence, because squirrels can spell cast.
Anyway my ambition is to turn every dragon in tob into squirrels, and have aerie whack them with that big hammer.
I hope to have screenshots of various ancient wurms soon in rodent form being chased around by aerie with fireshield red or globe of laming death surrounder, those two with the boots of speed makes her look like her skirt is on fire.
And its priceless when she shouts "faster than chikkita fastpaws!"

Two points:
1. I would disagree that the Sorcerer is the best class. I find that a Mage is better (but then again *I* prefer to have a bit more flexibility than the Sorcerer permits).
2. Mellisan *is* immune from time-stop (found out the hardway). BTW, this ISN'T so bad if you are a Kensai-Mu or other type of F/Mu combo (same with DG) since her summons (and DGs) *are* affected by the T-Stop. If you are a straight mage or sorcerer, though, it is a problem.

Hmm. I ever love the mages, were my prefered class, I even imagine other one. Then I play a Sorcerer, everything changes, I think sorcerers are much much better, because that magics that have only few utilities(like spell imunite) you can cast via scroll, versatility is on sorcerer the side not on mage side.
About the topic:
Demi-lich. When I first meet him I don't know of GB and anyother walkthrought. That has a hard(stupid) fight( about 3 hours). About the second hour wicht reload I made my Monitor feel my discontrol. I hate that lich even now. I try all the magics against him all strat, at the time I discover Wizard eye is imune, them I beat him. For few that lich don't make me stop play BGII. I Hate him.

Ivan,
I have to disagree. While a sorcercer *can* read from a scroll, I would much rather have that spell available to me whenever I need it. A mage can do that; A sorcer can not. In short, I find that the fact that the sorcerer can only know a few spells at each level to be crippling. If you only use a few of those spells anyway, then sure, Sorcerors are great. If OTOH, you tweak your spells to meet any given situation (and change your spells frequently given different situations...as I do...) then the sorcerer loses much of his charm.
Basically what it comes down to is IN the CPRG, I find that no needing to learn spells from scrolls is a DISADVANTAGE rather than an ADVANTAGE.
Your thoughts may differ of course. Both are quite powerful.

Alright, i admit it, I am a CHEATER!!!!
I gave my sorceress about 10 spells per level. I love the versatility of mages with the tough, slugging power of the sorceror class. I used shadow keeper to do it. I'm so ashamed...
After I run thru TOB with my hacked uber wench, I'll run thru Bg2 with ToB installed, hopefully with a good patch with dual
wildmage/cleric. That combo should provide an uber character with enoguh spells to swamp an army
I do give myself some disadvantages, however with my uber sorceress.
bo spell triggers, because when yourun that many spells per level, the screen for trigger is truncated and missing spells. thats not a big deal with time stop and increase acuity, however.
But its really nice to be able to hit a enemy monster squad with a ton of truely nasty compounded spells, concocted lovingly for the maximum lethal effect.
like the infamous web incindeary cloud trick, or the improved invisibility spell immunity divination trick.
my standard pre mage battle if i want the coup is spell turning, spell shield, spell trap and true sight.
try it, for those of youwho love the thrum of spells and the intricacies of a mage heavy party the hacked sorc is the funnest to play.
the wild mage/cleric dual, I think will be a killer. All the extra slotsof specialist mage, with a huge number of cleric spells, allowing for chained holy smites, chained abi dahzims and a really sick effect I discovered by accident is to cast time stop, and unload offensive based sequeced spells at a enemy. The effect is without increased aquity, you cna drop 9 spells on a single boss with a single timestop. with increased acuity, hit it with all the sequences youve got, then use fully charged wands for pure hell. example:
timestop
increased acuity
pierce shield greater malison breach
skull trap times 3
3 chromatic orb
2 chromatic orb
8 charges from a wand of fireballs.
1 dead dragon.

Polaris,
Yes. As you show heve played with the both class(like me) then I think the qustion are based on personal preferences.
The only thing that can make a mage stand at sorcerer side(because I Think the sorcerer a bit more powerfull than a straight mage) is that he can do Multi/dual. A multi/dual mage is in fact more powerfull( and versatile) than a straight sorcerer.

Yes, agreed about the dual/multi. However, when you reach the very high levels, like using a really small party to get mucho experience per member, you find out the ultimate power lies in the dual.
I experimented with kensai mage dual, and no matter how I adjusted it, no way I could get all the quest abilities in both that I wanted.
sigh. looks like the ultimate spell caster fighter at the 8million experience level is the mage cleric.
Of course, I can create a wild mage, hack and give him the quests, all of them, then dual to cleric, and give it all the quest spells too...
the main problem with the vanilla cleric mage is the low number of spells for the mage schools as opposed to the specialist mage. This is why I think the wild mage is a killer combo. many more spells than vanilla mage, yet you can cast from all schools!!!
Does anyone know what affects getting good results from a wild surge? I'd really like to know...
a thought...
if its luck, chain 3 luck spells together just befoer casting chaos shield and reckless dwoemer and you should get the maximum results you are looking for...
Hey, like my new signature?
I'm sure to get flamed for this one.
