Which mage?

Post by DraySkullan »

I'm considering dumping Aerie for Nalia? Mainly because Nalia's intelligence is higher, so more learned per level, better chance to learn. Actually, all of her stats are better except for Wisdom (my Aerie lost 2pts of Cha somehow). Yes, Nalia is a bad thief, but my PC is a swashbuckler, I'm covered. Jaheira and Anomen can do any clerical duties, as well as my paladin (yes, I'm running two of my own characters). Nalia should also advance faster, due to being dual and not multi. And Aerie whines too much. Anybody got a reason why I should keep Aerie? Or why I shouldnt use Nalia?

Mages don't get more spells due to high intelligence, only druids and clerics do.

If you want more spells, go for Edwin.

One reason to keep Aerie would be the possibility of a romance. I really don't like her though and God knows I've tried.

Nalia is great. Try her out.

No, I don't mean she can memorize more spells, but she's allowed to have more spells in her book, ie maximum spells per level. From a power standpoint, Edwin is probably best, but I just dont like having evil in my party. And i cant stand edwin anyway

The only reason I can think of to keep Aerie would be for her ability to chain cleric and mage spells, since she is the only NPC who can do that.

Personally, I would take Nalia.

Well, this may be a little biased.. but I hate Nalia!! haha.. I NEVER ever once had her in my party.. even when I did the D'Arnies quest.. i ditched her and went w/o her. But seriously.. what's the point of having Nalia when her HP is so low (I think) and she's just a 'low level' mage (in comparison to Edwin... and even Jan to some extent!).

Keep Aerie.. She's always good. It's kinda like she's got infinite number of spells (both clerical and mage)!!! haha.. it's so fun 'scrolling through' her spell list. :o )

And it is even possibly to have only her and yourself (if u are a fighter) in the party. Like, she can handle all the clerical and magic stuff.. while you do the fighting. Sounds a bit like Tarzan and JAne, but anywayz.. hehe

Do you hate all people you don't know? Good luck for her she isn't real! ;)

Her HPs aren't that bad. And she has the lowest AC of them all with her high Dex and her Family Ring.

She certainly isn't low level compared to Jan (being multi-class as he is).

Maybe you should try her out some day...

I've had Nalia for most of SOA and now in TOB. She got on my nerves a little, with that 'How are we helping the homeless' stuff. I took her back right before I went to the Asylum and have never regretted it. I left Aerie in Spellhold, rather than Nalia, and use Jaheira as my only Cleric/Druid. Nalia and Imoen are clones on my team - Short Bow, Staff and tons o' spells.

Nalia has gotten much cooler in TOB. She recently told Jaheira off, and Volo said that his tale would read the she was a mage 'that rivals the power of Elminster'. Pretty cool, eh?

Besides, she's just hot in the yellow and red robes she wears (in my game).

In my first game, Nalia was all kinds of useless, and Aerie was a god-send, because my main character was a Kensai. However, now that I have a Sorcerer PC, Aerie is the 40 kinds of useless, because I don't need her for Arcane magic, and as a priest, well... Pfft. Jaheira is good enough. She can handle the offensive spells for priests, and Minsc and Keldorn can focus on healing. Or I can just pump levels 1-3 full of healing spells for Jaheira, and summon Fire Elementals to do the dirty work.

Essentially, a character's value is based entirely upon the rest of your group. If you lack a thief, then even a crappy one is extremely handy.

I was kind of forced to take Nalia, instead of Aerie because i dumped Yoshimo or any other thief (the just plain suck)
But i would recommend Edwin for great summoning fun. Even more if your party is neutral/evil like mine :D
