HELP! On intiating dialogue w/"busy" NPCs...

I'm having trouble talking to people in the Game. For example, Lord Logan has instructed me to go into the jail and talk to Cernd. But when I approach him, I get the message "You can't initiate dialogue; Cernd seems busy". Same thing is happening with Ralis Shai & Arin Linvail. How do I fix this bug? Why is this happening? Anyone got a clue?

Maybe these NPC's were trying to initiate a dialogue with you, but you clicked them before they could, so they are stuck now, kinda like "fake-talking" dragons or liches...

You may be right...do you have any idea how to fix the problem so I can talk to the NPC & move the game forward?

There is a bug-fix for this on the official BG2 homepage. Go there and i'm sure you will find it. It happens when you're using win2000 service pack 2..

So go get the latest patch and that will fix it.

Thanks for the suggestion. Alas, I downloaded the patch, which was supposed to fix that bug. But the patch wouldn't install, because I already have TOB. Help! Now what?

There is currently a bug with Win2K users with Service Pack 2 installed, in which NPCs respond with "X appears busy".

This is fixed in the current BG2: Throne of Bhaal Patch

Was it the ToB patch you tried to download?
