Dual from mage + Party make up

Post by cobra mkII »

Q1
I was so pleased with my first game on BGII (neutral good fighter) I bought BGI/TOSC and played a N/G Mage and imported that into BGII/TOB. So, I have just started Ch 2, my mage is (I think, (I am at the office right now)) lvl 9. With the higher exp points of BGII/TOB should I dual class (never done this and do not understand the implications hence my query), if so what to? and when?

Q2
This time around I have dropped Yoshimo early, there is me (mage), Minsc, Jaheira, Aerie and Jan. I know this is all down to personal opinion but what type of 6th character or specific person would balance the party? At least until I get Imoen back and decide who to drop then, I do seem spell caster heavy so I may not even need Imoen, any opinions?

@Q1 Well Dualling you stop advancing in your current class (ergo figher) and you start advancing in another class (mage, cleric, thief) The main problem with this is that your character stops being a fighter and returns to level 1 of the class you choose to dual into. You retain the level 9 of your fighter class, so all of the bonuses you gain with that stay, but you loose the 4 weapon slots, the ability to wear armor and dpending on class other things such as gaunlets helmets etc.

I'd have to get drunk every night and talk about virility...And those Pink elephants I'd see.

1) I would hardly recommend dualing from Mage at all. The standard procedure is to start with a Fighter or maybe a Thief and then dual *to* a Mage. Should you dual now, your PC will get no high level mage spells and have lousy HPs for the rest of the game. Also, are you sure that you're even able to dual to the desired class? If you want to dual to a Cleric for example, you'll need high WIS. A Mage/Fighter would need high STR and a Mage/Thief high DEX. Why not continue on with your Mage as he/she is?

2) You've already got a well balanced party to start from. With you as a pure Mage, I'd recommend another Warrior. Keldorn or Korgan for melee. Valygar if you like to backstab. Mazzy if you'd like to have an archer. If you use Minsc (and maybe Jaheira) for melee, I'd probably go for Mazzy.
