Fair enough Magus. No hard feelings. Just don't judge me. I won't do it in this story - you are correct. I don't think sex should have a lot to do with a story (PS I posted a perverts thread for that rubbish Image).

You're not unpopular... yet Image

@Magus: Okay, a bit of clarification. First, Do you not suppose that the Radiant Heart would keep at least a few tabs on the Shadow Theives? Plus, how long do you suppose it would take to find out about someone like Ubik? And naturally, I would assume the largest Theive guild would be tailing him. So, It all adds up in the long run.

By the way Magus, I don't dislike you, in fact I think your all warm and cuddly... Umm... Whoops... (don't take that anyway... In fact, ignore it.)

Aegis stepped into the Copper Coronet, Tag at his side. As he entered, the strong oder of Ale, liquer, and unclean men hit like a warhammer. He shook his head slightly, adjusting to the smell, and bolded into the crowd. As he walked, a young woman stepped up him. She was dressed very scantilly, and smelled of alcohal.

Woman: Mmmm... A knghtly figure... (Shes giggled childishly) Might I.... Warm your cool body, mayhaps?

Aegis: (regardes the woman) I think not. Besides, a girl your age should not be here

Woman: Please... (giggles again) My age doesn't matter.... (Takes Aegis's hand, and forces it upon her thigh) Don't I feel inviting?

Aegis: (takes his hand back) Back off, girl. I am Paladin of the Radiant Heart. If you do not wish to be brought before a Tribunal, I suggest you leave this place immediately!

The woman scowled, and stormed off to the front of the Coronet. Aegis turned back to in front of him, and continued to walk.

He stopped in front of Bernard, and looked to him. Bernard turned, and once overed him.

Bernard: Whadda want?

Aegis: Information on a man named Ubik, and whether or not the Shadow Theives have an interest in him.

Bernard: And why would 'ya wanna know that? You some kinda snitch, or sumthing"

Aegis: I am a Paladin of the Most Noble Order of the Radiant Heart. I am here out of neccesity. I have already seen enough things in this one room to have you, and the owner throw into jail! Now, do you have information, or do I have to call for the gaurds?

Bernard: (mulls over the choices momentarly before answering) Okay... The Shadow Theives are a bit ansy lately... Dunno about what, though. Maybe o bit of coin could help, Hmmm?

Aegis: Bah! Enough of you. I would never stoop to paying for information that should come from neccesity.

Aegis turned on his heel, and began walking for the door, where Tag waited patiently. As he reached it though, a shrouded Mage stepped through. He had seen the same Mage handing a Beggar something earlier before he came in. He looked at him cautiously, and exited the building, stopping outside to think a moment.

You sould all know that bernard is a Harper spy in the copper coronet, the "remove jaheira curse" quest in the game give a hint on that.

Weasel enters the city of Athkatla in the dead of night. He looks straight ahead not turning to look at the beggars laid out on the streets. His mind is on other things.

He hits the slums like a hurricane and enters the Copper C. He can feel in the air things are stirring and a choose is coming.

He takes a table at the back and motions to the bartender he doesn't want anything. Yes there is a choose to be made ......

Ya, I know Bernard is. But, I'm going under the pretense he is just a common bartender, and he is keeping his alleigance hidden.

@Aegis: Thanks...I think. Image I see your point, but from Ubik's contribution so far, I think of him as being secretive and mysterious. So (in my mind) the Shadow Thieves have an informant or two that saw Ubik, and overheard him talking about searching for this artifact. When Ubik suddenly left, they couldn't follow him immediately, and are currently following his trail. With this said, the Order of the Radiant Heart should certainly not know as much as the Shadow Thieves. They might sense that the Shadow Thieves are stirred, and possibly extract a name, but I think deducing his intent would be beyond their limited spying resources.
Also @Aegis: Bernard IS the owner, and a good man, and would certainly help anyone from the Order. He runs the place as best he can. Maybe you're thinking of the guy before him that Bernard killed.
@All non-evil people: Don't I have more old friends than Alienbob (or should I say didn't I?). Drakron? Aegis, perhaps? Even WEASEL(???) Image I need some responses to my invisible stalkers summons! If I get none back...let's just say it won't reflect well on Magus's sociability Image

Edit: Oh, sorry Aegis. Didn't see your post (lag)

This is just an idea..... shouldn't we start a separate thread so we don't divide the story up... Plus you could place your grips in it too.

Actually Bernard is just the barkeep. The ex-slave took over the CC. Can't remember his name at the moment. Plus, Bernarn is a Harper, and they tend to be secretive, and tend not to help those who don't directly ask the harpers for. Besides, he may've just een in a bad mood, or we could use that as unrest in Amn.

Waverly is unusually giddy at the sight of the self-important paladin, and its not long before he is up to his old tricks. So much for keeping a low profile, but at least he manages to keep his eyes and ears more or less out of conspicuous sight. Few in the tavern would have guessed he was half-elf.

Waverly's first trick is to drop a small amount of some orange liquid into someone's drink. Not long after he has attracted a good sized crowd as he tells jokes, stories, and performs simple tricks.

Waverly: "So I have my skeleton knights take the paladin and remove his armor. He's begging and carrying on. So I tell him I have a very important task for him… At that I have the skeleton knights impale him on his spear. I draw a rune of warding on his chest and we carry him into battle as our standard"

The tavern patrons continue to laugh, but a bit more uneasily this time. One speaks up.

Tavern patron: <laughing uneasily> "You said paladin, didn't you? Why, the knights of the radiant heart have done some good work here in town"

Waverly: "radiant heart, eh? Paladins have many uses my friend, and are quite versatile. I can tell you I have never had a finer battle standard"

Mixed laughter and looks of disgust follow, but Waverly's laughter could not have been more genuine, and things were about to get better. At the far end of the bar, the very fellow who was the owner of the drink Waverly tainted began spouting an avalanche of obscenities. Midia used to love that trick, Waverly thought, as he raised his drink and muttered her name under his breath. Ah, and such a harmless prank, he will be none the worse for it tomorrow, that is unless…

Drunken ruffian: "How dare you insult my lady like that…
Drinking rouge: "She's no lady…
Drink ruffian: "Shut up and get a rope" <a group grabs the unfortunate and drags him out the door- he shouts obscenities the entire time>

Waverly feels he really must be going; he has once again stirred things up more than would have been wise. He wonders what this Ubik character has roped him into, and decides to find one Ubik's crew and wring some information out of him.

<Two figures face off on a dark street, illuminated by the burning of the surrounding buildings. The sounds of battle echo all around. A demon lets loose a shriek. A man screams.>
Magus: Ubik, your time is up. No longer shall you sow chaos in this fair city.
Ubik (sneers): And who's going to stop me? You? Behold true power! (casts spell trigger: 3 Animate Dead: Skeleton Warrior)
Magus : spell trigger: 2 Wyvern's Call, 1 Summon Nishruu)
The Wyverns rush towards the Skeleton Warriors. Cries of pain mix with the cracking of bones as a dying Wyvern smashes a Skeleton Warrior apart.
Ubik : casts Spell Sequencer: Greater Malision, Skull Trap, Emotion: Hopelessness)
Magus : casts Spell Sequencer: Greater Malision, Minor Globe of Invulnerability, Spider Spawn: Sword Spider)
Shards of bone pierce the remaining Wyvern's hide, and it screams. The sword spider seems to collapse from the Emotion spell. Magus stands unperturbed as the skull shards fizzle into his Globe. The Wyvern lashes out and reduces another Skeleton Warrior to dust, while the last Skeleton Warrior impales it on its sword.
Ubik: Your end is near, weakling. (casts Finger of Death: Magus)
Magus staggers, but despite the pain straightens and casts Summon Hakeashar. Ubik stares in horror as the maleavolent shadow drifts toward him. The Skeleton Warrior intercepts it, and Magus casts Mordekain's Sword. It finishes off the badly injured Skeleton Warrior, and the Sword and Hakeashar glide towars Ubik.
Magus: Prepare to die for your foul deeds, evil one.
Ubik: No, this can't be! (Summon Fiend: Glabrezu)
The Glabrezu goes into a wild frenzy, quickly annihilating the Sword and the Hakeashar. Then it turns on Ubik, who, in terror, casts Abi-Dhalzim's Horrid Wilting. The fiend shrieks, and falls withering to the ground, but not before its claws horribly gouge Ubik from the right shoulder to the left-side of his ribcage. Ubik falls screaming to his knees, meanwhile Magus is engulfed by the spreading dessicating cloud. Magus's skin shrivels up, and he falls to the ground, lifeless. Ubik smiles briefly before he too succumbs to the welcoming darkness...

Sidenote: This is the last part of the Magus-Ubik battle that occured 5 years ago. Obviously, neither one died, but this is from the point of view of that time. Magus was later found lying there by his friends, while Ubik was spirited away and abandoned at a Temple of Cyric, paid in advance by his friend Seabass. Thus was Ubik separated from Seabass and Serevon, never to encounter them again for five long years...when Ubik had finally regathered his power, and was ready to challenge fate once again.
@Ubik and Seabass: Is this alright with you?

Well, well, well... You can't go away for a couple of hours, for some hard-earnt resting (and some fooling around with the old wife Image ) and someone comes in and starts calling you a pervert... tsk, tsk, tsk...

Magus, you are still VERY young, so there are some things you haven't learned yet: Discreation, not being prejudiced about anyone, tolerance.
Well, I had no intention on bringing up the porn side (thinking that there must be some minor as thee, who would be... errhhmm... offended by something like Aerie's rape Image ) but you tempt me to do so...
Anyway, I won't give in to temptation, but please stop sounding like an old fart - I AM the old fart here, and I have to give hot-blooded youngsters (like you should be - god, at your age I wouldn't even dream of telling people what you told me) some advice, so they won't get off line.
No hard feelings, magus, I know it is right from your point of view, but - a littul advice here - let some steam go, man, you are only 17!!!!

About the plot... Well, everything I read so far is ok with me, with a possible excemption of Aegis's attempt to get his butt kicked for good. Image Image Image

I will take part in this later, right now Ubik is in the Planar Sphear, with Viconia ( Image) and, NO, they are NOT doing anything in the range of X-rated, just exchanging info on that device (thanks for the link, magus, I am downloading it right now) and thinking of ways to lay their hands on it (the artifact, silly!)

@Ubik: You thought I was calling you guys perverted? Sorry, I didn't mean to come off like that at all. I mainly wanted to keep the story somewhat serious and in-character. I was offended by the raping of Aerie...but that's already been settled. Nothing said in this story so far has really offended me. But I think I'll keep my opinions to myself in the future. Image
All: I apologize again to anyone I offended. It seems I came off too rigid and forceful. I really didn't mean to slam anyone down, or tell them what's right and wrong. I was only giving my 2 cent opinion. Image

Afterthought (@Ubik): I'm tempting you? Tell me how I am, so I can avoid doing it in the future. Image I do so hate hypocrites Image

Edit: Weasel's right. Could you respond in Weasel's new gripes thread, Ubik?

Sleeping off a serious hangover gained during and after lastnights performance at the Five Flagons Inn, Trip Wire is suddenly awakened by a presence in his room. Half way between sleep and wakefulness he hears the message of a summoning by a name he has not heard in a very long time - MAGUS. And then the presence is gone as soon as it appeared.

Once fully awake he struggles to understand. Why would Magus be requesting his presence - the two hadn't spoken for over 10 years, ever since the Necromancer saga....

Both Magus and Trip-Wire were recruited by the cowled wizards to help with the upstart Ubik. There had been some disagreements between Trip-Wire and the other parties involved in starting an all out magical war in the streets of a civilised town. Just too many innocents around.

When no-one would listen to his plees Trip-Wire had left the alliance just before the final confrontation with Ubik and had taken to wandering Faerun - lending his sword to justice and learning more of this land.

Back in Atkathla for just 2 weeks now and already Magus had tracked him down.

"Well better go see what the old bastard wants...."

So packing up his gear he left the city for the monstrosity on the cliffs Magus called home...muttering to himself:"He better have remembered to lower his wards and protections or this is going to be a short trip...."

Wandering the streets of Atkathla, Waverly is struck by the sense that the city if filled with vile, self riteous do-gooders. If he can't find member of Ubiks crew soon, he figures he will have to start a temple on fire just to spice things up.

The worst do-gooders, a motley crew of wackos if ever there was one, seem to frequent a structure called the planar sphere. The last personage to enter the sphere was a young elven lass of stunning beauty.

Waverly: <thinking to himself> Now theres a face that looks familiar. Isn't that the young elf that used to perform in the live sex shows in the secret after-hours events the circus used to put on? She did remarkable things with the moose and the squirrel. No, pity, that can't be her. That elf was winged.

Dissapointed, and more than a little annoyed at the do-gooder parade, Waverly begins to cast a delayed blast fire ball. Looking around THIS time, he sees he is clear and sets a trap of 3 of the sinister incendiary divices at the spheres entrance. It takes but a moment, Waverly's spells are nealy instant due to his robe and tonfa. <Waverly leaves for the Five Flagons, wanting the ruckus to die down before re-entering the CC>
