I'm rather young for this (16) but I have to start submitting my applications to the Royal Military College in a few weeks, and I don't
what to take!!
I'm looking at medicine, but that's a long program and I want to get a general degree first.
Looking at the sciences. Military History, political science as general courses.
So, ya. Any stories, suggestions about this are welcome.

Well, my Errant boy, listen not to these scallywags who know nothing of the world. I am a great and successful King, and have much in the way of lore to impart to you regarding the academic pursuits, and how impactful the right, or wrong, choice in a primary field of study can be, the shifts in the course of your life it can enforce, and balefulness of looking back at choices wrongly made, inexpertly carried out.
Simply put, though shoulds't study whatever interests you the most- whether you THINK it's best to prepare you for this, or that. This advice is universally sound- with the exception of the sciences- if you know you want to end up in a science, then follow that. But if you have no idea what you want to be when you grow up, do the sane thing- pick the coolest, most interesting academic path, get a degree in whatever, then pursue the next steps. IN NO FIELDS (almost none, as i've alluded) DOES WHAT DEGREE YOU ACTUALLY HAVE mean a damn thing.

Come not between the Witch King and his prey, or he will not slay thee in thy turn, but will bear thee away to the houses of lamentation, beyond all darkness, where thy flesh shall be devoured, and thy shrivelled mind be left naked to the lidless Eye.
Witch King, I thank the m'lord for your advice, which while ring true anon, but alas, going into what catches my fancy may prove troublesome. Sciences may be where I end up.
Have any of ye served in defense of your realm? If so, please tell me.
@Aegis, ahhh, I know of what you speak better than you suspect

@ Knight, I presume you are English talking about military college. I suggest that you do your A-levels then go into college. I wanted to join the Navy (I may not yet) and the best option is to do A-levels then degree.
Your field depends, my dad was in the Army and he was a Seargent so he didn't have any formal further education.
Do what you enjoy, if you like computers or engineering go into the REME (Royal Electrical Mechanical Enginneers). You can do anything really...

If I were to do just my A-levels to get my degree, all I'd have to do is Algebra... well that's the way my school system works we call Algebra "A-level"... just like I call the time to spam "G-level" (comp. lit.)Originally posted by Nippy:

Don't join the army.
You can study military history without joining the army y'know.

I want to be an officer actually. I see this topic has gone way of course. So be it.</STRONG>
I apologise, however, they are similar in structure. I presume you are considering Army? In that case, what do you enjoy at school. If you are hands on and techincal type of person, I suggest Engineering, it is a solid career and will give you good knowledge when you come out.
As an officer, consider who or what you want to command. You could go in the infantry and get the troops out, or you could go into communications or some such. The possibilites are endless...

No, seriously, don't join the army.
You'll have middle class people sending you off to die in some cr*p hole like Afghanistan because "that's what soldiers are paid to do".
If you survive that you'll probably have all sorts of social problems and when they finally boot you from the forces, you'll have no other vocational experience than being able to kill people. That won't get you many jobs in civvy street.
Think about it.
