I think Holland will win.
But you always gotta keep an eye open with the Portuguese - but I would have to say that Holland will pull it off.

I'm quite nervous about Denmark - Czechoslovakia. Especially because it is for the lead of the group.
But the Danish team is not very good at the moment Image

@Flagg: Tough battle....I think Holland had the best team in the Euro 2000 and it's still worldclass.....though I must say that their best players have occasionally played some abysmal football in the national team....
Portugal should never be underestimated....therefore as Holland isn't currently producing the best football....1-1

@Xandax: Since the Laudrup brothers have left the danish team there hasn't been the same fire and self-confidence in the Danish players.......the Czech Republic are playing some good football right now.....just as they did in the Euro 2000......hard game for Denmark for sure.....
Sweden are up against Moldavia....anything but a sound victory would be a massive disappointment.....

btw- Do you know of a player in Denmark called Peter Rasmussen??? Does he play for the national team???

Holland vs. Portugal:

Well, being Portuguese, I don't want to jinx them and so will not make any concrete prediction. However, I think the Dutch are at a considerable disadvantage against Portugal, which make me rest a bit easier. The Dutch will have to go to Portugal and score goals which should open up an already dismal Dutch defense. The only thing the Dutch really have going for them is that Portugal almost play worse at home than on the road, especially when they play in Porto instead of Lisbon. It'll be judgement day for both teams. The Dutch would do best to put Van Hooijdonk up front since he knows how to score goals against the Portuguese, playing for Benfica.

@Karembeu: IIRC then Peter Rasumssen dosen't play for the national team, I belive he is playing in Spain but I can't remember for sure. He has played the national team, but he has never played well for this team.
He is an okay leauge-player.

It is really wierd that Denmark sucks so much in nation-leauge, because we have some pretty good players in the leauges where they play - ei. Helveg (Milan), Ebbe Sand (Schalke 04), Grønkjær (Ajax (IIRC)) and so on.

Czeck - Denmark: 0 - 0.

Damned we came so close to winning over the Czeck - and now we have to settle with 1 point.

Oh well - it was a great and intense match Image

@Fallout: Damn......I though you were going to lose at least 2 points against Macedonia......Umit Davala saved you......
Sweden didn't do much better.....2-0 against Moldova and the two goals came during the last 10 minutes....

@Xandax: What did you think about Norway??
I still haven't stopped laughing....they lost against Belorussia with 2-1 and now there is no way that they will qualify for the World Cup..... Image

@Ubik: What's up with Greece......I thought they had a pretty strong team....very good young players as well......but they aren't doing so well in the World Cup qualifiers.....any explanation....

@Karembeu: well Belorussia isn't a bad team - was it in Norway they played or in Belorussia.
If it was in the latter, I'm not surprised Image

@Karembeu
Yes, we have many good (relatively young) players, yes, we were supposed to be the outsider behind the two big ones (England, Germany - not in that order) ...

BUT we suck heavy!!!!!

Damn idiotic coaching (our coach is a complete moron) players not playing footbal with the national team, just fooling around, bad locker room clima, fragments, bad greek habits (irresponsibility, lack of maturity, plain stupidity sometimes) - hey there are millions of reasons why our national team sucks. The outcome is the same: We are watching the finals on the TV Image

NOOOO
until 10 min for time i thought that holland was the best team and was defenatly going to win the world cup. The played Portugal really good and al there star playerscouldn't do a thing.
with 10 minutes to go and with 2-0 for holland notthing could go wrong right?

WRONG they stil lost points and the final score was 2-2 because of a penalty for Figo Image

i really had a bad time from that moment

Let me say that as good the Dutch played, they simply blew it, and a good team like Portugal, who were constantly putting the pressure on at the end, capitalized and pulled off a pretty heroic result. I hope the Portuguese media, who had been predicting victory for the home team, got a good lesson in humility. Hey you guys notice how the worst-placed runners-up from the qualifying round will have an easier time than all the other runners-up? That's right, the worst runners-up have to playoff against teams from Asia and Oceania, whereas all the other runners-up from Europe have to play against each other in what is often the most difficult qualifying round in international football, the runners-up playoffs.
