How did you first get into RPGs?

How did you first get into RPGs?

Post by Alexia »

It doesn't seem like this question has been asked before, and it's always interesting to hear how people got into Role-Playing Games.

The first game I ever played was a simple Dungeons and Dragons game when I was 13. It was my friend's birthday and she had always wanted to play, so we made her daddy run a game for us.

My next role-playing experience came at a role player's convention and I played a LARP (live action role playing) called Society in Shadows (run right now only in the midwest at certain cons, but will hopefully be expanding soon...want more info? e-mail me*), and I've been playing that game for about 5 years or so now.

Throughout the years I've played a few other games, some set in modern times, most set in old times, and I've found that I enjoy the games that are based more on the Renaissance era and before, which is probably the reason why I got into BG.

I believe Zelda would be covered under RPG...

It was the first game I ever played too. That would go all the way back to the NES..How many years ago was that?? 17 years? I cannot remember.

Zelda....ahhhhh...what a great game that was.....it was released in the mid-end of the 1980's......I believe it was 1986 though I could be wrong.......
I can still remember the feeling in the last cave.....level nr 9.
And then killing invisible Ganon with my magical sword and silver arrows......(ooops should have probably had a spoiler warning Image)....

Started playing PNP AD&D in the late seventies when I visited one of my cousins who had gotten hooked on the game. Played the next decade and a half, or so. I got better. I was only 8yrs old when I started. Our story lines were pretty stupid back then. Can you say, "Hack and Slash"?

I got into RPG on three things. Books, The Final Fantasy Series (Will always be my favorites) and the Zelda games. As I am younger then most, It was a Link to the Past that got me in it. Plus, it was Final Fantasy 2 (NA version, not Japanesse). Since, I have bought every RPG I could get my hands on.

I got into RPG with a game named "Oog van de Meester". In English it would be "Eye of the Master", but I am not sure whether there is an English version of the game.

I started playing this with my brothers when I was about 9 years old. After that I started playing D&D computer games and started reading Forgotten Realms novels.

Now I have a huge collection of fantasy novels and D&D source materials.

7th grade -- my best friend/boyfriend guy was into it, and i'd never heard of it. he bought me a d&d monster manual for my birthday and i was so fascinated that i read it straight through and went and bought some of the other manuals as well. i never actually *played* a tabletop session, though, till i was in college.

as far as crpg's go, i got addicted to age of empires (which is strategy, i know, not rpg) but that set me to looking for a good role-playing game, and as luck would have it, bgII is the first one i bought.

Played Hero Quest when i was a young-un.

First Computer RPG was...

GAUNTLET! played like Icewind Dale but without the lovely graphics, throughly reccommend it for it's total crapness.

The very first RPG I played was Soltice on the NES. Great game but a shame I couldn't complete it. I then played D&D and AD&D at with my friends but I never really gotten into it. Then I was introduced to the Forgotten Realms books and that got me really interested in RPGs from this setting.
