Is Diablo 2 a BG2 clone?

I looked at diablo 2 and it mentions you fight the big baddie baal!

It looks similar and it still might be a good game. Is it good.

(I didnt know if I should put this topic here) ;)

NO! :mad: :mad: :mad: ... well its not :D

Baal is the Lord of Destruction, while Bhaal is the Lord of Murder (no point whatsoever).... also BG OWNS Diablo 2...

Is kinda funny- main bad dude is named Baal in one and Bhaal in the other- and in both you start in a city where flaming pitch is dropping all the time.

The two games are in no ways similar.

However, the PR folks at Blizzard are marketing Diablo II, an action game, as an RPG. Which is nonsense, but they hope by doing so to grab some of the RPG market along with all the action addicts.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

I'm osrry to report that Diablo2 was released BEFORE baldur's gate 2.
But their totaly different games, for example if our diablo2 character's fought eacht other and you would have won, and whe exanced characters i would have won. while n SOA t's more about who's controlling the charaters.
I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.

I heard somewhere that ToB's high level abilities were (loosely) based on (A)D&D high level rules. Can anyone confirm this?

If so, Diablo 2 must have copied 'em from D&D. At the very least Diablo 2's Barbarian abilities. The similarities are striking:
[*]Bash -> Smite
[*]Iron Skin -> Hardiness
[*]Whirlwind -> Whirlwind Attack (duh)
[*]Stun -> Power Attack
[*]Warcry -> Warcry (more duh)

Of course, none of these must have been exceptionally hard to come up with...

edit: damn listitems...

I have both BG2 and Diablo 2, and I like Baldur's Gate so much more, its more than just hack and slash...

Diablo 2 is fun if you like to run around killing monsters and finding better items with no plot whatsoever (I agree, where the heck did they get the idea that its an RPG? :rolleyes: )

Well anyway thats MHO. Oh, and no, I dont think D2 is a BG2 clone (It would have been much better if it were :D )
I'm not addicted to BG2! I swear, I can stop any time I want!

Ok, now leave the room, im going to fight Draconis and need to focus.

Hmmhmm

Fireball=Fireball
LightningBolt=Lightning
ChainLightning=Chainlightning...

Wan't me to continue that list? No? I thought so!
Well, my point is: Some things are so famous(like Fireball) that they are used in almost any game...

WotC has released a PnP Diablo RPG using the D&D rules (there are even models for the Diablo characters). So I guess there’s a slight connection between Diablo 2 and ToB through this spin-off.

EDIT: Tons of abbreviations in this post, aren’t there? :p :D

Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

Blizzard always comes up with superb back-stories for their games yet seldom do they feature this rich background information in more then little tidbits. The fact that they have a writers bible for the authors who script the various novels based on Diablo, Warcraft, and Starcarft shows that they care about the history of their worlds. That being said, Diablo admittedly has only slim RPG overtones. But if someone wanted to Roleplay in the Diablo world I think it’s easily feasible. In fact, assuming the Diablo world is in it’s own unique crystal sphere then it’s possible for a PnP DM to have Jaheira meet up with Deckard Cain through some spelljamming or extra-plannar portal. :eek: ;)

This really is like comparing C&C to Quake 3, innit? D2 is all about item gathering and skill allocation, however much some people would disagree. The point of BG2 is role-playing, with a healthy dose of strategy. They're both excellent, though, in their own ways.

both games are completely different yet both are great. bg2 is awesome in the fact that it does resemble ad&d somewhat and it's not just hack and slash. d2 on the other hand is awesome for the rare uber items you can find and the realms where everyone can play together.
