Will I enjoy Planescape Torment?

Post by Quitch »

OK, played BG2, loved it. Playing it again, and already have my evil party for my third time through planned Image

However I would also like a fresh story. I haven't played either Icewind Dale or Planetscape Tormet. I'm put off IWD, because from what I've read it's less story and few NPCs, with lots of fighting. For me the story and NPCs are an important part of the game (Gawd bless BG2 NPC interaction). My question is, after being spoiled by the mighty BG2, would I still enjoy PST? Is the story and game tight enough?

I played Planescape but did not finish it. I do not like that scenario or whatever. I like the sword coast and such. It is a magnificent piece of work from what I saw of it. The story is very rich (albeit not to my tastes).

I'd go with IWD first. There is no NPC interaction because you make your entire party, but the story is strong, albeit heavily laced with combat. And it takes place close to the BG area.

Play Torment. I enjoyed it much better than IWD (in fact, I got so bored with IWD that I never finished it). The setting is exotic. The NPC's are "unique". And you really don't know what is going on till about halfway through the game.

In addition, your character is unique in that his alignment is determined by his actions; he can switch between fighter, mage, or thief at any time (no multiclass though); and he has all sorts of "special abilities". I would highly recommend it.

Torment is cool! There is much reading however, and you can even finish it without having to fight the boss...Many things depend on talking.

i just finished torment and loved it. it is definitely more geared towards a role-player as opposed to a hardcore gamer. as has been mentioned, there is a lot of reading, because it is strongly story-oriented. personally, i thought it was great. beautiful spell-effects, interesting storyline, and a very enjoyable setting.

If nothing else, you can't beat a game that has a wise-cracking, floating skull as a party member. Image

Not forgetting the necrophilia gags Image

I must say i still prefer PS:T to BG2, the overall effect is amasing. The fact that i played on it a couple of weeks back and accidently started playing as an evil character without realising it, that rates as class. It is probably my favourite Game of all time Image
