Underdark - Is there more than one way in?

Post by Bren »

I have just completed the asylum areas but as I wanted to find Imoen asap (its a role-playing thing) I have not really done much outside of the main 'required quests'. Don't really want to go to the Underdark yet - I was hoping it would be possible to access it later/after returning to the mainland and strengthening my characters as I believe it's fairly tough down there!

Hope someone can help. Hello to you all, by the way, from a new user but an old BG fan & roleplayer!

You can reenter the Underdark, but not the Drow city upon which the area centers. You said your're a roleplayer, so getting through the Underdark the "easy way" will not be for you. The "right way" is long and hard, and will substantially improve your party. So don't plan on getting back to the mainland for a good long while... Oh, and one more tip: Go with Saemon if you haven't already, not through the portal. It's longer, but it will pay off.

Lost Souls: A bereft lover. A masterless familiar. Friends gone their separate ways. Time marches on, and destiny heralds the meeting of comrades old and new. Can they find what they're seeking? Or will the search bring them only more pain?

No you have to go to the underdark. Go with Saemon Haremon though rather than going through the portal, you get to acess an extra zone.

Take your point re the easy & hard way, Magus - more late nights ahead then. Thanks to you both re the tip concerning Saemon.
I have just agreed to meet him at the tavern, so I have got the choice. From what you have both said, I assume I am right in saying that whether I go via the portal or with Saemon, the next stage is unavoidably the Underdark?

Out of curiosity, how does one go through the portal anyway? The door to the portal room is warded, and I haven't found a key. I ended up going the sea route (apparently better, anyway) by default because I couldn't get through the portal.

The key is in one of Irenicus' rooms in the east...

Bren, if you go through the portal you will go straight to the underdark. if you go with saemon, well dont want to spoil it but you will eventually end up in the underdark.
