The Harem Tent
As Waverly tried to explain to his guest that a pickpocket must be at work, a solitary figure advanced on the table. Clad only in a drab robe, he was still too imposing a figure to hold any station lowly enough to dress in one. He spoke to the patrons, “I caught a pickpocket outside, take what you believe is yours from this purse.” The robed figure emptied a purse full of coins on to the table and walked off to the back rooms. Waverly bowed to his ‘friends’ and followed.
“I’m sick of your antics,” the robed stranger told him when they were in private. “Have you done what we have paid you to do?”
Waverly replied, “Nearly so. He is unwise and weak willed. His harem girls pose more threat than he himself. I don’t believe he even needs to be discredited… he is poseur as it is.”
“Perhaps,” came the reply, “but we have our reasons.” The figure threw back his robe to reveal fine dwarven chain covered by a white tunic with a gold rose emblazoned on it. “The Knights of the Gilded Rose will be rid of him and his brethren soon enough. And I can’t wait until my business with you is complete.” He scowled at Waverly. “You are the most devious and treacherous rogue that I have ever had the displeasure of meeting. I have no idea why the reclusive Oracle recommended you.”

Then darkness took me, and I strayed out of thought and time

Dragon Wench watched Loner's retreating form, and hoped that she would return soon. Following Georgi and Dark Poet, she proposed that they have Gwalchmai take Anomen out for a while, while they filled the jacuzzi and contemplated a course of action (even if that action would be no more than quaffing some Tia Maria).

"We seem to be at loose ends, thought a jacuzzi might help out with ideas." Dragon Wench said to Georgi. "But maybe it would be better to go and find her. Do you know where she might have went?"

Loner stood before the walls of the High Hall of the Radiant Heart. She looked up at its arched windows, with warm light pouring through and spilling onto the pavement at her feet...At length a figure emerged from the building, and stopped when he saw her.
"My...ye gods! Loner!!"
"Greetings, Sir Ryan."
"We haven't seen you since --" His voice trailed off.
"Aye," Loner responded. "It has been a long time."
Sir Ryan sighed. "You are wise to stay outside."
"I was contemplating entering, but rather hoped someone...sympathetic...would come out sooner or later."
"Well...what brings you back to us? Surely not nostalgia?"
Loner then related all that had occurred, beginning with Gwalchmai's disappearance and the Harem's valiant stand against the dryads. Sir Ryan listened intently.
"This is grievous news indeed," he said. "I understand you anger. You may not be able to forgive our unfortunate brother, but surely...you cannot abandon your sisters?"
"It grieves my heart to leave them...I didn't know what else to do. My soul is in agony, my martial skill is not what I had thought it was, and I am overcome with guilt at my behavior toward the tavern wench Pandora."
Sir Ryan thought for a moment. "You have probably not stopped to think, Loner, in your state of mind, that this may be just what the mastermind intends? The Harem is a force to be reckoned with and surely he knows this. He may succeed in his vile plans could he divide you."
Loner stopped. That sounded just like something Darkpoet would say. "I had not thought of that indeed..."
Sir Ryan shook his head. "This may concern us more than you know. For some time now we have suspected that a rival Order has been plotting to overthrow us. I know not if all this is connected, but...it seems too much a coincidence."
"I shall do whatever I can to stop this madman, and I will tell you what I find out."
"Good. Should you succeed it may compensate for...previous debts?...Though understand, I cannot promise anything..."
"I understand, Sir Ryan."
Loner then left, headed back toward Trademeet...

Dragon Wench and Dark Poet were in the middle of trying to persuade Georgi that a soak would be a good idea before rushing off to find their companion, when the tent flap opened and a messenger appeared bearing a letter. "It's from Loner"! Dragon Wench exclaimed

observing the strange turn of events, jennabard thought it best to look for clues in the various taverns where her contacts keep a look out for gossip. beginning with the five flagon inn where her play house is located.
this has a fine making for a play, she thought.
seeing that her playhouse is in good order and the rich patrons continuing to return for more, jennabard went back to the bar. ordered her ususal drink and waited for the right guy to approach.

Yes, the letter. Here it is:
TO the Ladies Georgi, Dragonwench, Jennabard, and Vivien:
(Uhh, where was I?...oh yes: )
I ask you all to forgive me for my childish behavior. It was wrong of me to abandon you...
I write this from the home of Mazzy Fentan, who sends you all her very warmest regards. Her sister will not stop talking about how we saved the Dairy District cows. I am staying with Mazzy because I simply cannot bear to see Anomen again. Mazzy has been most hospitable and has even had Tia Maria special-ordered for me.
I have learned something that may be of use in our cause. Come to Mazzy's house if indeed you forgive my trespass against our friendship, and I shall tell you all I know.
Fondly,
Loner
PS Has anyone seen Vivien?...I worry for her safety with Waverly, especially as he is still under suspicion.
(Whew, don't make me write this again
)

"ah, my raven, drinking alone? i thought you birds tend to flock together?"
jennabard took a sip of her amarretto and with out looking said," hare'dalis, how are you? i did not expect you to leave aeire's side, i'm sure she misses your presence."
with a look of weariness, hare'dalis took the seat next to her and ordered his drink.
"raven, how i've missed you. would you not reconsider? give me another chance? i've already left aerie, she tends to cling too much." taking jennabard's hand and kissing it.
"as far as i'm concern, you had your chance, dear. but we be bards and must look to the future. someone is endangering my compaions and i want to know who and why." letting him continue to kiss her hand.

(Loner relates her conversation with Sir Ryan Trawl.)
"I don't know if this has any bearing on our own concern, but it's something to look into I think. Since Anomen is targeted, perhaps the rival Order seeks to destroy the Radiant Heart by discrediting him. I'll wager he isn't the only one, either. Perhaps there are others...And large organizations like that usually have a vast number of hirelings in the different regions, to do their dirty work for them. Remember the Iron Throne??...*shudder*...Perhaps Waverly is merely a hireling for this rival order...all this may be a stretch, but we should think about how to investigate this at higher levels...where to begin, is the question."
