IMO Eco's masterpiece is "Foucault's Pendulum", but he has also written many interesting essays. His work often deals with topics like language, communication, perception of things and reality in general, cognition etc.

I think I've heard of Foucault's Pendulum, but I'm not sure.

I've thought of some people who I think are still alive.

Frank Peretti-"The Oath" is a great book.

Anne McCaffrey(sp?)-I love the Acorna books

It seems that no one mentioned Arthur C. Clarke, so I will say that he's my one of my favorite writer.

Because of this, I must say that I have read a book by Stephen King and though I do not remember what book it was, I do remember I liked it.
