i read through this thread but really couldn't figure out what the underlygin argument was over. at first it seemed to be about how people of poor countries have more important things to do than think philosophy, and then evolved intot a debate over the merits of philosophy itself. but for those who have absolutely nothing, they are left with only their thoughts, we should all be so lucky to have the opportunity for clarity in our lives.

@Vehemence: I wasn't stereotyping, just trying to interpret his sig (I kinda figured it was out of the gaming context). It is more of an "IMHO" than a stereotype too.

If anything though V, it is a belief of mine that man is not altruistic and selfless. Rather they are mean and nasty and unwilling to help their fellow man. Whatever their creed, culture, country, standard of living or up-bringing. When one talks about human nature it is difficult not to generalise.
