In defense of Aerie

Post by The Outsider »

One thing that many people have seemingly overlooked in regards to Aerie, or cleric/mages in general, is the following:

Consider the nifty spell sequencers and contingencies. With a cleric / mage, you can set cleric spells into a contingency. The best example is the "if at 50% hit points"- sling a cure wounds spell in there. Very practical; stoneskin is my generic spell for a contingency, and often I've found that the character still has skins left when the contingency triggers, due to odd spell-related damages.

Other fun tricks:

Sequencer (minor) of Doom and Chromatic Orb

She has the potential to be, in a single battle, the most powerful fighter of all the NPCs. I've said this in other threads. Give her the Girdle of Fortitude and have her cast some prep spells. Examples of combined spells (not in any order):
Tenser's Transformation
Righteous Magic
Draw Upon Holy Might
Holy Power
Stoneskin
Fire shield
Blade Barrier

Probably cast in reverse order, since some spells limit your casting after the spell is active, or would actually lower your strength.

This doesn't even cover other standards such as:
Haste/Imp Haste
Mirror Image
Imp. Invis.
Various protection spells
Contingincies and Triggers
even Black Blade of Disaster

In one game, she singlehandedly took out Balor in the Svirfneblin area. She can be awesome!

I seriously doubt that she is, she doesn't have alot of practice...the other two have some more.

Can anyone help me think/drool of fun ways to have mage/cleric sequencers, contingencies, and triggers?

Trigger:
Greater Malison
Hold Person
Poison

Or, for a fun combat prep:
Defensive Harmony
Protection from Evil 10' Radius
Chant

Stuff like that.
