Great Television Shows
I'm posting this since Cheesemage wanted to turn my Death-Defying Television Watching topic on its head, and I was afraid all its coins would fall out of its pockets. So now, you (that's right: YOU!) get a chance, bucky, to list those television shows you've enjoyed over the years!
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
Ummm..errr..I'll have to get back to you

1. "The Twilight Zone". Absolutely the creepiest, one of the best-written shows ever. ("Talking Tina" had me scared WITLESS when I was a kid
) Rod is the TV god.
2. "The X-Files", first couple of seasons. Tell me a liver-eating man-monster who can squeeze under your door or past your windowpanes after you lock them isn't scary, and I'll sell you that bridge...
3. "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", again, first season or two. The wittiest show I've ever seen. (Considering, I don't see too many...) Then the characters grew up, but the show didn't
Ehh...can you tell I like paranormal TV?...

I really enjoyed Bullwinkle, years ago--is that still being run, anywhere? It broke so many rules for its time. The only comparable thing I can think of is The Simpsons, which I've seen occasionally over the years.

Ok, someone tell me who the third and fourth Doctors were... IMO, Tom Baker was the best...
In agreement with Loner, X Files was fab when it started, but got dull... I still love BuffyTVS... (I only started watching somewhere in season 3, and they have just started showing season 1 again so I'm watching that now...)
Red Dwarf is great (didn't think much of the latest series though, and please tell me they have given up the idea of making a US version)
Monty Python's Flying Circus
I can think of some cool kids TV -
Dungeons and Dragons (of course!
little relation though it bears to the game)
Dogtanian and the Three Muskahounds
...
I'm sure there are more...

Third Doctor: John Pertwe (sp?). Actually met him and Sara Jane (forgot actresses name) at a Dr. Who convention. Back in my college days. Always wished that I could have experienced the 'craze' in Brittan, since I knew that the U.S. was mostly 5 year behind...
Oh, yes, Red Dwarf. I always LMAO to that, but now its hard to find on the PBS stations.
Okay, seems like many of the best shows come from Brittan as reruns on PBS stations. Chef! comes to mind, Balleykissangle,as well as others mentioned. Could this indicate anything about the general temperament of the members of this forum? That and the attraction of X-files, Buffy, Twilight Zone (the one when Burgess Meridith breaks his glasses at the end always chilled my heart), and other supernatural shows?
Forgive me, Fable, but I was also a Trekie before there ever were any "Trekers". Always loved the Utopian vision of the future with 1960s sensibilities..
Current most watched show in our house is Sesame Street.

That there; exactly the kinda diversion we coulda used.
I totally agree. Red Dwarf is great fun, though last series did gone off a bit, IMO.Originally posted by Georgi:

Blackaddar (particularly Goes Forth)
I love British comedy.
And satire, like Have I Got News For You.

Blackadder--that was fun.
There was also a great Robin of the Hood(?) series from Lionheart, in the UK, that only lasted for three seasons. It had a distinctively pagan slant, and I discovered only a couple of years ago that one of its main actors (who played a renegade Saracen) recently created a pack of tarot cards.
Dr. Who, especially #2, 3 and 4, were fun. My wife and I laughed at the special effects, and loved the humor--especially the sly send-ups on the British establishment and entertainment industries.
One great example of British humor was The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin. I think it might have been the funniest thing I ever saw the British do (for TV). Owed a lot to James Thurber. Wildly absurd humor.
