Big steaming pantload of Jaheira problems.

Post by bootlegcorndogs »

Ok, for starters I'm currently caught in the Jaheira "did you enjoy that last battle? huh? didja? well?" conversation loop o' death for the third game in a row. Thanks to this forum, which I only recently discovered, I now know that it's because I killed Dermin before reaching the appropriate point in the romance. (Odd that the official website forums for the game contain little to no helpful information. This place has been amazingly helpful, though.) So, I went back to an old save that I made immediately BEFORE my final meeting with Dermin, went off to a nice quiet spot in the woods, and hit pause for a few hours. Got a romance conversation, paused again, lather, rinse, repeat. Eventually she got to the "did you enjoy that last battle?" dialogue. I completed it, hit pause, waited a few hours, unpaused, and she repeated it, much to my irritation. Then she did it a third time a few hours later. So I thought to myself "Hell, maybe meeting Dermin AT ALL causes the loop o' death." So I went back to a MUCH earlier save that I had made immediately before my FIRST meeting with Dermin, went off to the woods, started the mind-numbing pause game, and lo and behold now she's repeating the "I feel like someone is marching over my grave." conversation. So, now I have a few questions.

#1: Most importantly, how the hell do I fix this? (I've got the patch installed, if that's relevant.) It seems like Jaheira is determined to repeat herself no matter how far back I go. I want to get the romance back on track, and preferably without mucking around with codes or an editor or a downloadable script. I'm struggling to make it through this game without having debug mode turned on. Do I just go back to an even earlier save? What exactly is causing the problem here? Is it because I'm very CLOSE time-wise to a Dermin meeting at each save? One rest for either save brings him up. If it's not Dermin causing the problem, what is? I've got a lot of saved games here so I can go back to pretty much any point, although I would of course like to stay as close to my current save as possible. If I have to replay the entire game over from Irenicus' first dungeon AGAIN because of this I'm going to snap and go on a spree of some sort. So, for my sake and the sake of the children, tell me there's an easy, non-cheat way to correct this? Do I just have to go much further back?

#2. About the pause thing, what's the best way to go about this? Last night during my pre-final-Dermin-battle-save fiasco I had been sitting in the temple ruins forest, and there had been only about an hour or so of pause time between conversations. So then I left it on pause and went to bed...I woke up expected a new conversation as soon as I unpaused in the morning considering it had been paused for about 6 hours, but I didn't get one. I had to pause and unpause a few times for a few hours before she finally spoke again, and it was just a repeat of the "did you enjoy the last battle" thing. Is there a better or at least more reliable strategy for using the pause thing to get her to talk? Is there a better map to do it on? Druid grove seems to be about the same. Should I walk around between pauses? If I leave the game paused for a very long time will several dialogues happen quickly afterwords or does the timer stop while it's waiting on me to unpause and read just one?

#3. I originally had a third question, but I can't remember it anymore, so I'll just end this post here. I would really appreciate an answer to either of my questions. This is my third time through the game and I've yet to get through Jaheira's thing without hitting a bug in the script triggers. So, thanks in advance.

I would help if I could but the romances are my weak point in the game... Don't give up there is someone who can help you here...He/she might not be online right now.

The propper trigger that you are looking for is the Jaheira "Dawning of our day" romance dialogue

Forcing the dialogues to trigger makes the Jaheira romance go a lot quicker... instead of waiting around for hours on end, you can simply force the next dialogue to come up whenever you're ready; it also makes them more compatible with the game-time-specific Harper quests, so you don't run the risk of accidently killing Dermin "before his time."

Look at this post to get the already well-documented procedures for forcing dialogues, fixing the Jaheira romance, etc....

Yes, I know that's the dialogue I'm looking for, the problem is that I can't reach it, by any means. She began looping after the Dermin battle, so I reloaded a save from immediately before my final battle with Dermin and she began looping at the "did you enjoy the last battle?" conversation, then I reloaded a save from immediately before my first meeting with Dermin and she began looping at the "marching over my grave" conversation. My question wasn't which coonversation should I wait for, but rather how far back do I need to go in my game in order to reach a point where her script hasn't hung? Originally everyone was saying that problems arose after the final Dermin battle, but I'm getting loops earlier than that. Hence my post.

Well, if you've already slain Dermin, then Jaheira's dialogues are going to loop ad nauseum. I would suggest setting Jaheira's LoveTalk rating to 55 or 56, thus taking yourself out of the loop. The dialogues will (should, I mean) pick up right where they left off then...

I understand that, my question was why do they loop even when I go to a pre-Dermin save? I don't really want to skip any dialogues (actually, I'd rather avoid CLUA debug codes altogether), which is why I'd rather just load an old save and do a few things over. However, even when I load a save from before the FIRST Dermin meeting she still loops at the marching grave dialogue. THAT is my problem.

In addition to the above question, I finally remembered my question #3. I eventually partially gave up on trying to fix the problem normally and turned debug mode on again, however I can't get the the CLUAConsole:SetGlobal("JaheiraRomance","GLOBALS",1) code to set the romance event timer to 1 to work. Ever. I know I'm typing it correctly, but every time I do it she still just sits there and doesn't respond. I know that if there are prerequisites to the next dialogue it won't be activated by the code, but I've tried the code at several different saved games and am getting no response. So, my question here is: could I get a list of the assorted prerequisites for romance dialogues? I know sleeping in the forest is one, but aside from that I can't really think of anything.

In my main saved game my lovetalk rating for her is at 49...unfortunately that save was made after killing Dermin so I'm screwed there. If I go back a few saved games I'm in the lower 40s, and there appear to be NO prerequisites for those dialogues since I've been able to trigger them before by simply leaving the game on pause for a few hours and then coming back...yet using the CLUA code won't prompt them. Hence my question. Any relevant help would be appreciated.

instead of using CLUAConsole:SetGlobal("JaheiraRomance","GLOBALS",1)

try CLUAConsole:SetGlobal("JaheiraRomance","GLOBAL",1)

That should force her dialogues, one after the other, if you keep inputting the command into the console... Or, just use it whenever you're ready for a new dialogue, i.e., after a major battle.. Image

I was pluralizing a word that didn't need it? Rofl, I'm an idiot. Thanks for the correction, I'll go try that now. (grin)
