Create new kits for BG 2!!!

Post by Astafas »

Got you with that topic, didn't I? Image OK, this is what I propose: Many people seem to have implemented other kits then the official ones into BG 2. For example, I've read about people playing Bladesingers. Why not share your ideas on kits with other people on this board. Hey, we could even make it a little competition to come up with the best implemented kit!

Tools: ShadowKeeper, ADnD rulebooks, your own amazing creativity and whatever else you come up with!

The rulebooks can be found for downloading on the following site:

So, give a short presentation of the chosen kit and make sure to explain how you've used the ShadowKeeper or other tools.

OK, point well taken: I didn't get you. So, now you can start writing down your kits. Don't be shy, I'm sure your implementation is just as good as the rest of them!

Hmm, I'm not technical enough to go around inventing this stuff but I think I have a nice idea here:

Thieves are supposed to be extremely agile and everything yet none of them fight with their hands. I'd say make a thief with unarmed combat abilities and a speedbonus.

Well you did get me actually, Astafas. I just had no idea what kind of editing that would actually pass as a "kit" and no idea whatsoever how to create something interesting. The developers of BG2 did a really great job in creating the ones included in the game so I've not been able to come up with a wish list.

I never encountered AD&D kits before this game and the ones presented in the extensive material you linked too provides mostly kits that are impossible to implement in the game, as far as I know.

Still I get the feeling that I've used the shadowkeeper utility more than most people that visits this board. I actually used it right from the second game of BG2 since I hate rolling for attributes and wanted the mage avatar for my fighter/mage.

I edited just about every single aspect of the characters that the utility offers so I guess I can come up with a few pointers if someone comes up with a kit that sounds interesting enough. Remember that leveling up resets a lot of things that the shadowkeeper can alter such as Thac0, saving throws, number of memorized spells and bonus damage.

A more powerful editing tool must be used to alter these things. Also it seems to be the trend that each kits powers are balanced by a roughly equal penalty. I have no idea how to implement penalties using the shadowkeeper since leveling up also restores inferior statistics in the areas I mentioned before.

creating new kits is actually easier then one would think. There are files called whatever.2da, these are rule files and these are what needs to be edited to change classes and/or create new kits.

Problem with the Bladesinger.
I was looking in the "compleat Book of Elves" and I found out that Bladesingers -2 to casting speed is because they can cast spells with Leather and Chain armor.

that's not really a problem, this can be done pretty easily if you give them the give them the fighter/mage useable variables and enable spellcasting on ALL chain, leather and padded leather.

PS.no one in their right mind would go back and change every chain, leather and padded leather armor.

Anyone knows how to change the class or race(if you want a subrace, i e drow) on the character sheet? Can anyone do it or is it for "experienced users" only?

Download Shadowkeeper and just edit your character. I know for sure there's an option to give your character the drow appearance and I assume it'll tell you on your char screen as well you are a Drow race.
