Start a multiplayer game and assign control of all characters to yourself. Perhaps copy the folder from mpsave to save, so you won't have to go through the character assignment every time.

Monk will be weak at the start so keep him out of harms way. He has thief skills so you won't need a thief right away. Instead create a fighter of some kind then dual him at level 9 to thief. I did it with a Berserker/thief.

Instead of cleric try fighter/druid multiclass. I think druids are better than clerics because they can heal and raise dead like a cleric but they also can cast insect swarm to stop casters. And their Elemental spell is like adding another tank to your party. Plus with Belm +2, girdle of frost giant strength, and some GOOD armor and a sheild fire druid can make a decent fighter. You won't be able to turn undead but thats no big deal.

Oh yeah, I made my Berserker/Thief with the following skills.
Warhammer***
Flail***
Two handed weapon style**
Then I gave him Flail of ages and crom faeyr
This makes him a deadly scout.

Also you only have one mage in your party. Although the sorceror is the most powerful caster with the right spell selection. I recommend adding another dual classed mage. I created a Berserker/Mage Dualed at 9. She has the following abilities.
Katanas*****
two weapon style **
I gave her daystar and Dak'kar's zerth blade.
This character will become a powerfull mage just when your party starts needing more casters. Plus for the battles that only need one mage you can dish out major damage with her dual swords.

However, in the event that you don't want to dual everybody/everything and plan your characters out to have the perfect items...

I'd suggest a Blade. Bard. Not used much, but really badass once they get going. As soon as they get 6th level spells, it's over. Throw one in longsword, one in scimitar, 3 in dual wielding; grab the harmonic chain from the planar prison. In the beginning you'll function mostly as a spellcaster (that'll help ease the burden off your sorceror), but as soon as you get level 6 spells...doom comes. Tenser's transformation turns your bard into a badass; offensive spin becomes unfair at that point. Contingency at 25% life is fun too...kicks of Tenser's, you get fully healed, and become badass fighting machine. Moreover, you can always have that breach for that pain in the ass mage. Great utility character.

I'd go with Bard, Monk, Sorceror, Paladin (undead hunter, for no particular reason), pure cleric, Berserker/thief. I like the pure cleric because in some areas (pit of the eyeless, bodhi's tomb, shadow dungeon), watching 90% of the enemies spontaneously combust is great. And for Shangalar and the shade/elemental/normal liches, being able to cast 2 sunrays as they spawn is fun.

Lastly, I'm not a fan of resting. At all. I like to go on until all my spells are used up, my party is crying to me about how they must rest soon, and they never had to work this hard in the Order, etcetera. I try to clear out most dungeons without a single rest; my cleric always has a ressurection and a few full heal spells memorized. Sanctuary and Blade Barrier are also too much fun.

That's the reason I endorse utility characters like Clerics and Bards. It takes a lot of work to run a pure cleric out of healing spells; likewise, when the bard runs out of spells, or if the enemy is too tough, he can switch.

So that would be my party if I was going to do it...Not sure why I'd throw a monk in, but I would, coz I've never played one up to high levels.

My sorc, Jahsan (Jason)

Sux to be unoriginal. =(

I guess you have already started. I just want to say that I admire you guys who play with six characters, I could just never control that many. If I could I would like to play with six single classed characters.
Perhaps like this.
Cavalier
Elven Kensai
Elven Swashbuckler
Human priest of lathander
Elven sorceror
Human Blade or Haer'dalis
I have never played a kensai to the highest level but I suspect that they would be pretty cool once they get greater whirlwind!!

Well, I can tell you some names I use/used in this and other RPG!

Duriella - My actual female Kensai/Mage. Don't know how this came into my mind, but I like it the most!!!! Cool?
Gabriel - Used for a Paladin. Like the Arch-angel, you know.
Luvinia - For a female bard.
Cassandra - Female cleric, though REALLY should be a Diviner!!!! :D :D :D
Alexandros - THE conqueror, who cried when he had no more lands
to conquer!!!! For a leading fighter obviously. ;)

Or maybe Sigfried, Elena, or, for a barbarian...CONAN!!!!!!!!!
(and a Lana with him?!! Maybe someone knows the cartoon!)
I know, they don't sound much anglosaxons, but, damn, neither am I!

I can't help for the party composition, I prefer to choose a protagonist to focus on and then try different NPC's combination, they all
interact in different ways and the game is much deeper IMO.
Tried once the full-custom party, but it bored me in short time!

I would suggest making that palladin a Cavallier instead of undead hunter. `coz I dont think you need another guy with drain immunity if you have a pure cleric and a monk. The monk can simply put on the amulet (cant rmember the name, argh, the one you get from the shadow thieves) and the cleric, if you chose priest of lathander, can cast Boon of lathander or just cast sanctuary, use turn undead and walk up to the vampires.

However, the 20 fire resistance of the cavallier is very useful. Put on the red dragon armor, ring of fire resistance and wield holy avenger. 110 fire res and 50 magic res and at least no lich will be able to harm you (much). An archer could also be useful.
Nah, dont listen to me. Im just trying to make your party an exact copy of my own. :D
Here is mine:
Human cavallier
Dwarven Fighter
elven priest of lathander
elven Archer
elven sorcheror
gnome multiclass illusionist/thief

Good luck whatever you chose!

I get all involved in the story lines when I make up my own party - comes from a background of old-school DnD. I like to make up a party that has a reason to be together, not just an efficient collection of classes. Make up a story - who are these people? Why are they together? How are they likely to react to the challenge of Jon Irenicus?

For instance.... (same group I used in Icewind dale - mostly.)

Two powerful women, a human cleric and an elven mage, were sent out to hunt down Irenicus and right his wrongs. They each brought a protector - the human cleric is defended by a human paladin, while the elven mage is accompanied by an elven archer. These are powerful and noble ladies, so they need a servant - perhaps the elven mage is more practical and has chosen a half elven page who is skilled in the arts of acquiring things for his mistress (thief) while hte human cleric, being a romantic, likes the idea of having a bard along to soothe her nerves and comfort her along the hard road ahead. Thus:

Human Paladin
Human Cleric
Human Bard
Elven Mage
Elven Archer
Half-elven thief

Yeah, you could do a better job of covering your bases, and you could have more racial bonuses, and yeah you could have a better racial distribution - so what? You want a mathematically perfect party or one thats fun to play with? This group would be very motivated to get to the point and would avoid most side quests.

Hell - try a theme - all dwarves! Your story is that Irenicus has damaged or stolen or in some way pissed off the dwarves, so they send a team of bruisers to fix him.

Fighter - berserker
Fighter - kensai
Fighter - berserker
Barbarian
Fighter/Thief multi
Fighter/Cleric multi

No mage - that makes it interesting. Very heavy on the melee - chomp chomp!! Chew 'em p and spit 'em out. These guys mean business - hack anything in your path that gives you any guff. These guys would also avoid most side quests - unless maybe a vast treasure was involved, or a particular dwarven artifact (C.F.)

Another idea - an acting troupe!

Elven bard - blade
Human bard - skald
Half-elven bard - jester
Elven mage - illusionist
Halfling thief - ticket taker :D
Dwarven Cleric - the boss

These guys would sneak and steal and get into places they shouldn't - cause trouble and maybe give up on the hard stuff (who wants to fight a dragon? Seriously - we might get HURT!)

I really lke to have a theme - it helps you view the game differently and thus get involved in different quests and interact with people differently.

Names - here is one of my favorite tricks - trow together a few descriptive terms for the character - "deadly" and "elf" for example. Now rearrange letters and/or syllables and see if you can get something good out of it: Daerfel, Feldar, Lead Fel, Lead Filler, Lead Foot, etc. Just see whereit takes you. Get nothing good - use differnt words.

Good luck!
