Your Version of Hell
hell would so bad that it is unimaginable. think of the most extreme pain you have ever been in.(both physical and emotional) now multply that several hundred times. the pain would be unbearable, and yet you would have no escape. you would wish more than anything to die so you could be released from your suffering but you would not be able to. you live consciously feeling this way for the rest of eternity. no escape. no relief.
@CE: Please dont tell me such stories, they only make me feel sick
@Thantor: My first thoughts were something in that direction, but then i figured i would probably be worse to be chained on an open plaza under the gazing sun, with no nice cosy damp cavern in sight.

For now, the worst place is in my room with my computer which doesn't load. Hence I have no help from outside world even by online.
Fortunately, though, I'm not locked in my room...

a philosopher once wrote that heaven and hell looked the same.
everyone was sitting around on the edge of a giant bowl with the most wonderful food ever in it. everyone has long spoons to reach the food, but the spoons are too long to feed yourselves. heaven is where we feed eachother the perfect food; hell is where we keep trying to feed ourselves.

Joyce wrote a frightening vision of hell in "Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man," and it'll scare the bejebus out of you whether or not you believe it exists. In the 19th century, Jonathan Edwards preached a sermon on hell so relentless in its progression and vivid in its detail it has become part of the literary canon. The most famous expositor of hell is, of course, Jesus Christ, who preached about hell more often than any other prophet in the Bible. He doesn't go into detail like Joyce and Edwards do, however, and limits his description of hell to the two things which humans beings universally fear - raging fire and absolute darkness, underlied by that most horrible word "Eternity." In the same way heaven's joys cannot be conceived by the human mind, hell's tortures cannot be completely comprehended. No hope, no mercy, no redemption, no escape, no ending.
Hell is nothingness, ever lasting bordem... on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on FOREVER!!
Hell is Los Angeles.
A friend of mine once said his version of hell was where everyone laughs at you. Think about it, that really is terrible.
Thomas Merton in The Seven Storey Mountain has an interesting image of hell. According to him, everyone enters the presence of God when they die. God is love. Now, those who have lived in love and charity during their lives are prepared to enter the presence of Love itself. For these people, uniting with the force of love is pure blessedness. This is Heaven. But those who have cut themselves off from love, who have abused and used other people for their own ends, and those who have committed atrocities, people like that are not ready to encounter the essence of Love. When they enter its presence it torments them. The sheer power of the force of Love is hurtful to them, because they have known nothing but hate. This is Hell. At the same time, though, there is the possibility that after a time the love will "burn off" the hate, as it were. So that would be like purgatory. Some theologians contend that there is no eternal hell, only this refining process that painfully purifies the soul over a period of time. Whether it might take all eternity to purify a soul is another question.

The concept of Purgatory was a 12th century invention. Thre is no Biblical reference of such a place.Originally posted by loner72:

Did I say there was a biblical reference?? I don't recall even remotely implying that. What I said was this:Originally posted by EMINEM:

Those were my exact words. There are such theories in the study of theology, whether you approve of their existence or not.
I will not allow this to turn into a theoligical debate, Eminem. First of all, I've had enough of them; secondly, they never get anywhere, everyone just ends up at one another's throats. I for one am going to drop it right here and allow the thread to continue in its original intention.
Actually, loner, I probably learned more from you during those debates than I did from my 4th year Theology Professor.Originally posted by loner72:

My 'personal Hell'...: Being naked in an eternally hot(at least 100°F) place with no one around except for people who don't care about you, mistreat you, abuse you emotionally, physically, etc., and knowing that if you could just get out of this place(of which there is no escape) you could be in a comfortably cool(around 35°F for me) place with the one you love and who loves you, too.
