REALLY slow load times

Post by luclin999 »

This problem has been getting worse the longer I play the game.

When I first installed it and started playing load times were around a minute to a minute and a half.

Now after a week of playing, I'm having LONG load times between areas (3-6 minutes).

This seems a bit excessive as I have a full install on my machine, 450 meg cache setting, and over a gig free space still on the drive.

I'm tried optimizing the drive and defragmenting it but still no luck in speeding it up.

System has 128 megs of RAM so I don't think that is the problem..

Any ideas?

Do you have a lot of saves? I think each save runs around a 100k, so if you save compulsively, like I do, you might have less cache than you thought. Also, do you have a fast drive, with a high spindle speed?

this would be the biggest factor if you did a full install. if yoou did do a full install, see how much chatter you're getting from your hard drive when you move between areas.

Also, are you using 32 bit color? I think that would cause the area maps to be much bigger.

load up a previous game, and move to a new area. this would tell you if its having problems creating a new area or just simply transitioning from an area to another.

I have 128mb ram 1.1ghz cpu and I still get slowdown when I cast lots of spells. When I cast timestop and then started hurling energy blades. I threw 20 and they all got stuck just in fron of my char and the game got really slow. The cursor moved like a turtle. Also most "cloud" spells cause slow down. Especially horrid wilting.

SIX min load times?? yuk.
Must get really annoying if you accidently click to leave an area just after you've arrived.

Sounds like you have a slow as hell hard drive...I have an AMD-350 with 60 megs ram and longest loadtime I've had was probably not even 2 minutes. Do you have your windows swap file settings correct? Double your ram size and permanent unchanging.

Found the problem.

My Bios was set to auto detect the drive and it was setting the information slightly off from what it should be. This was causing the performance drop.

I went and set it manually to the correct information, re-optimized it and now it has load times of about 40 seconds in the game.

This brings up the question of what people do during load times...I usually play the guitar or the saxophone a little.

I had the same problem too with the slowdowns when casting spells batelling and stuff, I fixed it by going to the graphics menu You have 4 options to click on. click the one on below the one that is at your right.
Can't remember the name (If you read the discription it says something about graphic abnormalities).
It increases your game speed a lot, only each time you enter a new area you have to wait about 6 sexonds to start playing.
