I know for certain that Cernd can't use the Shadow Dragon Scale.

I have both Cernd and the Shadow Dragon Scale in my party. I try to put on the Scale on Cernd but the item is "red out" and not usuable. Aren't you forgetting to tell us something here?

Well, then, why doesn't the Shadow Dragon Scale work for "my" Cernd? Have you perhaps edited him in any way? Equipped him with any special item (does it work without all items?)? Or could you two guys by any chance be joking, now?

There were quite a few "balancing" changes between the kits/classes as there were many complaints that some kits were overly strong or weak. I know that there were many complaints about the Shapeshifter. As well, the Wizardslayer was considered to have too many drawbacks for the bonuses; Monks' M.R. was capped so that a Wizard Slayer (with a max. M.R. of 80% within the cap) would always be the most M.R. character. This armour change may have been one of the "balancing acts."

They havn't ny any chance balanced the Beastmaster kit? It has a huge drawback (can't use metal weapons) and puny abilities (animal summoning, cast familiar and +15 hide in shadows).

I played it the first time and was really bored... Swashie is much more fun...=)

Finally the answer. No, I haven't been able to aquire ToB yet (the resellers say *maybe* this wednesday but I heard their first "maybe" more than a month ago so...). The first post said nothing about ToB but I'm sure this explains it. Thanks.

Yes, you did. It took rapier to clarify that you needed to install ToB first, though.

And it's probaly a bug, shadow is leather armour thus the black isle peoples did not mark it as unusable to shapeshifters cos it is leather and leather and druids work red dosn't work, why? it isn't leather!

As I've explained before on this thread, the Black Dragon Scale doesn't go on Shapeshifters in SoA (ToB not installed, that is). If it is a bug, then it's a new one.
