Vampires or Shadow Thieves

Post by CtrlAltDel »

In your opinion which way do you like to go with this decision.

Last time i went vampires and killed all the thieves i might go the other way this time, thoughts?

With a "good" cleric like Anomen or *shudder* Aerie, side'n eith the Shadow Thieves is quite easy (Turn\ Destroy Undead) ..Almost too easy. It's also less of a dungeon crawl. Personaly, I always side with Bodhi - I enjoy the less than agreable tasks ;)

Well, both ways are fun, so...

I think the big question is, do you get more experience for doing one or the other?? I don't know the answer, but my sense is that it is pretty even either way. You get the important items either way, but I think the thieves are a little easier to kill since you don't have to worry about level drain or domination so much. The thieves are just a lot more easy enemies.

I have usually done Aran's side and killed the vampires because it seems like I always play some sort of thief (since there is exactly one decent thief in the game if you don't play one), and bodhi won't work with thieves.
May you walk on warrrrm sannd....

I've heard rumors of a pair of boots of speed on aran livales corpse. true or not?

This way you would aslo get rifthome axe, but dwarven thrower is better...

a nasty tactic with turn undead I have just thought up...

have inv stalkers block vampires from reaching your cleric...I always use skellys so I rarely turn undead, if ever.

Not true. The Boots of Speed on Renal Bloodscalp; however, if you side with Bodhi then he'll vanish. So to get them you'll have to kill him, then kill Arkanis Gath, which is hard to do (Time Stop/Shapeshift: Mindflayer comes to mind).

Not sure about the experience thing.

Personally, I usually side with Aran. Actually, it seemed to me as though it was much easier to side with Aran, there are so many ambushes and traps and other things inside the Guild that you have to be VERY careful (hint: if you side with Bodhi, look for places that would be good to set up ambushes at. There's probably one there for you).

The only thing that siding with Bodhi gets you that's extra is Aran's armor, which I think is a set of Elven chain +1.

Nope, no pickpocketing those off of Renal. You can get other stuff but not those

BTW, TOB (or at least the patch) seems to have eliminated many of the pickpocketing loopholes, or at least some of them. For example, as far as I could tell you can't pickpocket Adalon for her blood any more. Haven't tried Kangaxx yet.

I think the side you choose should depend on your alignment. If your leaning more towards good (Lawful neutral, to Lawful Good) then you should side with Aran. If your more evil (Chaotic neutral, to Chaotic Evil) go with Bodhi. If your True Neutral, flip a coin. Either way, your coming out reletivly the same.

yeah, but working for a bunch of bloodsuckers...like working for a lawfirm!!!

OOOPS...I have worked for a lawfirm, me bad.

If there was a chance of a little nookie from bodhi, like phaere, then sure. but I just can't make myself work for vampires!

Yes, buffy the vampire slayer is one of my fav shows. besides, whacking vampires is quite fun, and has I think more exp than whacking thieves....

last time i seemed to do a little of both, did some thief stuff, but i think that was the yoshi sidequest, then i ended up killing them all Image but the thieves are really easy to kill, are the vamps that easy to kill also? i mean they have the level reducing attack all a thief has is a backstab, maybe.

siding with bodhi means an easier fite, but aran does give you the amulet of power thus immunity from level drain. i think you get more experience from killing the vamps aswell. and you wont feel like a sucker later on! :D :D

don't you get the amulet off his warm corpse? I think I read that some where...

this amulet is absolutely essential for mages and sorcs, and even better for fighter mages, cause it makes you immune to level drain and vocalize! best in game for spell caster

I wouldn't say siding with Bodhi is more Evil than siding with a bunch of murderous extortionists...

Besides, I look at it this way: Kill all the Thieves in Chapter 3, kill all the Vamps in Chapter 6. Best of both worlds! :D

Only by siding with Bodhi you can get the ring of djinni summoning and the rifthome axe. You get the amulet either way, either by looting or gift.
I wager the turnip market is making a killing today!

for the second party i've sided with Bhodi, but do not kill all teh thives too early, do the first Aran's quests to initialize Eldwin quests.
After you get all the stuff around Maevar you can become a traitor...
That's i've done. It's immoral. It's evil. It's Bhaal side

You kill more murderous bastards this way (especially Mae'Var & Co). What's Evil about that? You're doing Athkatla a service. Honestly. If I lived there, I would be grateful! :D
