I suspect you die because I think Maze is forever, unless you kill the original caster's party. Since their party has survived and your party hasn't, you stay mazed until the end of time or you die, whichever comes first.

i dont think so fable.

with a maze you are supposed to return no matter what.

but if you are solo a charm kills you as well. which is fair. i mean no matter how many hit points you have if you are charmed it is just a question of inserting a pointy object into the skull.

maybe the same with maze - they know where you reapear.
I didn't really bounce Eeyore. I had a cough, and I happened to be behind Eeyore, and I said "Grrrr-oppp-ptschschschz."

I think whether maze is permanent doesn't depend on whether the original caster dies. Maze is a temporary spell. How long the target remains in the "maze" depends on the target's intelligence, i.e., if the target has an intelligence of 9-11, it's mazed for 4d4 rounds.

I don't know why the PC dies if he/she gets mazed. It doesn't make sense since it's only supposed to be temporary.

The game stops if :
a/ the PC is dead
b/ the entire group is considered "Helpless" - and that includes charms, domination, mazes, that all are temporary effects...
So if you are mazed and play solo or if your NPCs are dead/helpless, it's over... Not very logical IMO, game could continue until end of effect, but it's like that.

This is no PnP thing; it's an engine limitation.

The time you spend in a Maze is dependent on your Int (i.e. how fast you can find your way out). You'll have a hard time killing a Mirror Imaged, Stoneskinned, big Hit Point, really low AC Fighter/Mage even if you know where he's gonna come out.

So, anyone knows of a patch to this? Or better, can make one?

Really hard to solo ToB with the patches that makes some enemies tougher when i die from maze. Well, and charm too, but its easier to resist that, i never get charmed

True, Tom. It does sound like a problem with the rules system as installed.

Kevin Dorner says he can't fix it, so I guess that's your answer...

You should be able to avoid Death By Maze somehow. Spell Deflection/Turning/Trap will probably do the trick (I know Turning bounces Imprisonment). Magic resistance may or may not.

This is my favorite topic title ever!

"Why do I die."

It's really more of an existential plea...

A question, but ending with a period instead of question mark makes it even more hopeless and sad...

It's question I have asked many times in the game. It's often followed by the question:

"Why do I play."

Every time I see it on the topic list, I laugh and laugh and laugh. I always want to post a response - "because" or something. This thread and "Hostile Peasants" are my favorites.

What a wonderfully esoteric observation by THE JAKER. Just beautiful.
IMHO,I think "Why I die."(no question mark), would be even more profound.
That response is all the more surprising coming from an accountant!?
Unlike myself, he must have full use of both sides of his brain. ;) :D

Thanks, guys.

I have full use of 5% of each side of my brain, actually, the other 95% is taken up with a lot of things -

the rules to old RPGs that no one ever plays(Champions, Runequest, Tunnels & Trolls, Mercenaries Spies and Private Eyes)

song lyrics (to songs from bands I was in that no one else has ever heard except 5 people at a club in 1989...)

movie dialogue (Repo Man is the best movie ever made IMO.)

names of pro skateboarders and the tricks they did

Specs and performance figures on cars that I have never and will never own, and motorcycles that I wouldn't even know how to ride.

Accountant by day...

Jaker, you crack me up! I've read that topic heading myself a hundred times and been amused each time.
