Are they really worth it?

Post by Mr Sleep »

I was wondering how useful Morte and Annah really are.

Reasons Annahs fighting abilites are dodgy and the only reason to have her is shes the only thief, but the game hasn't got any really nasty traps, so what is her function?

Morte although useful with Ingress' teeth and at the start he still can not be relied upon to work in a fight.

The best NPC is Dak'kon, he has time to gain XP (unlike Vhailor) and his mix of spells and fighting cna be awsome, i can not see a reason for any more NPC's.

Any opinions to the contary?

Hmm...I don't know about that. I think Morte is pretty useful (litany of curses) and he is not that bad at fighting either... :)

If you try to talk to your characters sometimes, you might not just enjoy their skills, but their behaviour.

If you're a thief, and your WIS (I think?) is high enough, you can learn skills from her, and even teach her alot about stealthing and pickpocketing yourself!

And fairly early in the game, you can boost Morte's STR by 4 and DEX and CON by 2 each.
All that can go wrong, will, unless it doesn't, but then, it might anyway.

Don't forget that Ingress's teeth become more powerful every 3-4 levels (you have to talk to them). At the the highest level, they have a chance of stunning an opponent as well as doing more damage. I've found Morte to be a very effective fighter, esp. with his Litany of Curses.

Give Annah some tattoos to improve her fighting skills. As well as disarming traps, Annah can pickpocket and open locks. I take advantage of these skills in both the Lower and Clerk's Wards to make some nice change.

If you're facing single, extremely powerful foes, Morte can distract them while everybody else hammers away; and remember: spellcasters forget to cast if Morte upsets them. There's one especially bad magicasting enemy you'll encounter who can be effectively rendered useless by Morte.

As to Annah, I find that her ability to ambush from hiding makes her the perfect ninja in dungeons guarded by slow by powerful multiple enemies. She can come out of hiding, doing good damage, run, hide while an enemy follows, attack again, run, etc. I cleaned out one entire dungeon that way.

I am impressed by the answers to the contrary, there are some merit in the words.

Although i question how useful a thief is how many times does she actually decide a fight?

Morte is another point, it's not fairly early on in the game it is cloder to the end there is three portals and you are at the end of the game, he gains the extra stats to late :( Litany of Curses i hadn't taken into account for during my rant, i have to agree it's useful but all the XP from the start for litany of curses seems a little pointless. Just as a point of explanation.

Spoiler.

I dropped morte off in ravels maze and kept Dak'kon and then when i got to the fiend out of Moridors box i killed him only dying once, i had a party of 6 once when i tried that and the Nameless one must have died about 8-9 times trying to kill this guy.

From the point of conversation and dialogue they are integral and Annah is a sexy kitten (*meow* :) :) ) but i found them lacking in other departments, as i have stated previously, looks like i am the only one though :)

I haven't finished the game yet, but so far I agree with mr Sleep that Dakkon in by far the most useful PNPC. Morte is good too, but I keep him most for fun.

I haven't found much use for Annah so far, except stealing in shops which I don't usually do anyway. The flirtatious dialogues are of course wasted on me, and I don't really like her sort of teenage bitch style. I'm too old for that, I think :D

Annah's flirt dialogues are totally wasted on me since I'm a heterosexual girl, and so is she. :D Now, if you were my tiefling compantion it would be another story altogether :D ;)

...Let us draw a veil over the scene which follows, dear reader. But recall, if you will, that Safe Sex is essential--who knows, after all, where that tail's been?
