Hi and hello *spoiler*
First off, as the topic implies, I want to say hi and hello to everyone, especially the ones who know me, even though I know the numbers are scarce nowadays (Though I saw sleepo posting here, he *might* remember me)
There are 2 main reasons for that, one of them is that this is my first post in the torment thread and the other reason is that it's a *long* time ago that I posted here... and then there is the fact that some people might see me as being uninteresting, which opinion I heartily disagree with
Anyway, the main reason for writing this thread is cos I actually (finally) bought Planescape Torment (bought Neverwinter Nights at the same point of time, a few days ago, but that's another story ) and now I regret for not doing it earlier, a great game this is indeed. But while playing I came across this "tiny" question.
I'm currently in the Modron's maze and since those "servant"-robots always talk about an evil wizard I was wondering if there really *is* such a thing that needs to be defeated in that dungeoen or if it's only a "training ground" for getting xp... Because if there isn't such a thing as an evil wizard, and the sole purpose of the maze is to get one's hand on the Nordom, which I already accomplished, then I don't want to waste more time with that area! I think I've been running around in that stupid maze for nearly 3 hours (ye, playing time) slaughtering machines (and being slaughtered, which defineteley is *very* annoying in that stupid cube of a maze!!!!)... Oh well, I'm sure someone got that answer for me, so plz be so kind and give it to me.
"I have the feeling like I should know the answer to that question, I can feel I've been here before, but my memories don't seem to help me"
Thx in advance...

You always did get Neverwinter and Icewind confused
Indeed there is an evil wizard, as with all of the Modron maze it is fairly unspecific, however you will find him eventually. I assume you are on the hard setting for the maze - You have to be to get to the evil wizard.<STRONG>I'm currently in the Modron's maze and since those "servant"-robots always talk about an evil wizard I was wondering if there really *is* such a thing that needs to be defeated in that dungeoen or if it's only a "training ground" for getting xp... If you kill him you should get the portal lens, which means you can control the modron cube without asking those pesky modrons Also one can sell it for 6000 plus
Actually your return deserves a party. Come down to SYM (bottom forum) We will start a party thread

Just as a hint on the evil wizard thing--however the maze is reconfigured, you'll always find him in a room that's entered from the southwest. He reappears, alive once more, whenever you reset the dungeon on hard level, so you can destroy him multiple times, if you wish.

First off, it's nice to be remembered And as I can understand u still remember me quite well (NWN & Icewind *sigh*), that mistake really haunts me, must be a curse, just like the Nameless One, eh? Oh well, I'll get the hang of it... eventually
Second, thx for telling me that my running around and constantly dying (nearly in every room I enter) wasn't a total "mission of vain". Oh well, I assume I'll have to spend another 3 hours in that maze
I'll try going to the southwest as you hinted @ fable and try my luck there, though I'm pretty sure of the fact that I have been in all rooms more than a dozen of times! double *sigh*
Oh well, I thank thee for thy help noble lords. May thee farewell in your journeys of adventure, I take my leave now, there are several things I need to attend to, beside spending several more hours in the frikkin' maze!!

It might be worth resetting the maze adn running through a few doors, see what happens, might be easier than searching high and low for it. I recall once Nordom actually appeared in the second room after the enteranceSecond, thx for telling me that my running around and constantly dying (nearly in every room I enter) wasn't a total "mission of vain". @Bordin, don't go to the southwest. All I said was that however the dungeon is reconfigured each time you reset it, the wizard's room is always approached from the southwest. If anything, this means you should move generally northeast.
Nordom, as I recall, is towards the west, in a room approachable from the southeast.
There's plenty of reason to wander around in that maze. Lots of good experience; a wand that teleports you to anywhere you want in the city; some summoning rods (you can sell the excess for really great cash).

Uhm.. Well... errr... Actually I'm a bit confused
Well, the thing is that I found that wizard thingy (thx for your advice again doods ). BUT what I don't understand is that u say that I needed to go to the northeast oh well, good that u didn't say it from the beginning, cos then I would still be looking for that wizard thingy...
Another thing is that you said that the wizard would drop a portal lens @ sleepo... Actually I was wondering about that statement when I first read ur msg, but then I thought I was mistaken. Well, the thing is that the wizard didn't drop much. A rod of summoning, a spell (cannon something I think), some copper and a bag of those strange coins. No portal lens? Well, the thing is that I already had 4?! portal lenses before encountering that wizzy, but well, nevermind that, I'm confused so I'm writing confusing things
You mention a teleporting WAND though @ fable? Do you mean the portal lenses or really a WAND? Just wanna make sure
Ah dang, why couldn't those modrons have given one a quest to destroy that wizzy? *sigh* oh well
And you mention good xp and nice excess items for sale @ fable. I must agree on that one, though I prefer to walk around in the streets talkin' to peeps and occasionally fight. In that maze all u do is fight 'n die, rather sickening to die at least once in every area u enter Actually I miss some elements from BG 'n BG II in Torment. One thing I really loved in these great games was when I met people that approached me for a talk, in Torment I have only seen that happening once, so I really miss that. Ah well, that's another subject
Again I wanna say thx for the help

I'm probably not being very clear. What I mean when I say, "you approach the wizard's room from the southwest," is that along a layout grid of rooms, the entrance to the wizard's room is always northeast. This means that you know you're generally getting closer to him if you move a lot in that direction, and should save more frequently. Similarly, the more westerly your movement, the more likely you are to come upon a room with a northeastern entrance/exit (from your current stance) that contains Nordom.
I hope I explained it a little better, this time.

You're probably right. I seem to recall a red haze obscuring my vision the last time I tried to explain this, and when I could see again, there were decapitated bodies lying everywhere. Linguistic perfection is a hard taskmaster.Originally posted by Bordin_Steelaxe:

Hello, Bordin. I remember you, but I'm not sure you don't remember me.
I have just finished the maze (bought PS:T about a month ago, but haven't got much time to go through. ). I think it is easier for you to write a map on a piece of paper. In the hard setting, the maze is 8x8 squares and you go into the maze from the top left square (as far as I know).

Eh.... Well, actually I tried to make a frikkin' map about that frikkin' maze! BUT I failed after the first 2 rooms Maybe my dwarven intelligence isn't capable of doing such a thing :/ In either case, I HATE that maze, actually it kinda ruined my kewl game experience of PS:T, so now I started playing IWD
I was rather annoyed that the manual didn't say anything about that u HAD to create ur whole party, I had a feeling that told me that I needed to make a whole party, but I first realized it when I met that ugly ogre in a cave about an hours play from the beginning, that made it clear to me (talkin' 'bout dwarven intelligence, now aren't we? )
@ Minerva: I do remember u

One thing that I always did to cut down on the amount of wasted time and effort was to mark the door that I just entered from with a letter, like "B" for back. That way, when I returned, I knew which of the three or four doors would get me back to the beginning. The Wizard is available on ALL settings of the maze, because I killed him on the Medium and the Hard, no difference. Trick is to have Morte get to him, and try to kill him before his drones get you...
If it weren't for all the cool items that the bad guys leave, the maze would be a one-time-thing. Those protal lenses are nice for cash, aren't they?
