Nordom

Post by ReignsOfPower »

I just spent about an Hour going through that maze to find Nordom. And the result, I found him, yet, hes crap!

One, he is only level 6! and
Two, has only ranged weapons which barely do 12 damage each!

I guess it was worth it though. He has a funny voice :) :) :) :) "I Think Therefore I am......I Think.

There are only two characters who do ranged attack Nordom and Ingus, Nordom is not totally appaling, but he is so hard to find that most people don't bother, sometimes you find him after the 2nd door of the maze ( ) but his ranged ability is useful and you can pick up better bolts in the modron cube.

Hey, I think Nordom's fairly handy (Get it? Handy! He has four arms! Get it? Huh? Huh? Huh?... Okay screw it, wasn't funny)
Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

I don't get it. Is he only in the maze when you try the Hard version, or what?

Argh. I've been searching through the *first* maze for several weeks now!
I thought everything in the original maze was destroyed. Oh well, I'll probably find some answers about that now.
Thanks!

But you must have gained a huge load of XP, so it is sort of worth it ;)

Sleep, you make me even more angry.
To make sure I hadn't made any mistakes, I never saved, and all the monsters were dead anyway. *sniff*

Both Nordom and the evil Wizard will only show up on the hard setting, in the Maze. If you're looking for Nordom's room, as I recall, it's diagonally to the upper left (what is, by convention, north in most games). The Wizard is diagonally to the upper right, or east.

I'd strongly urge picking up Nordom. His stats really improve over time, you'll find some pretty remarkable lenses that can improve his various abilities, and he's the only one who can use all the extremely powerful bolts you'll find.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

Nordom is quite funny, and the interaction between him and Grace is very amusing! :D
But, Nordom is more than funny, he is a very good fighter, you just have to do things the right way.
You can upgrade Nordom 4(!!!) times, all can be done while still in the Cube. Just talk a lot to him and explore all different dialogue options. After this, he's very good and after a few rounds in the undersigil for XP, he was lethal since he has two crossbows!

SPOILER FOR UPGRADING NORDOM:

Talk to Nordom about Mechanus and the Source. Don't tell him you are the new director just yet! Then ask how he is doing, and he will analyse this. Then, if you have INT 16, you get the option to ask if the separation from the source might have caused his shift of perspective. Nordom will then gain
+1 INT
+1 CON
and you will gain XP.

In the control room, you should already have spoken to the Engineer construct and become the new Director. When you find the evil Wiz construct at the same level of the cube as Nordom, talk to the Wiz first and learn he has disposed of the old director. After you beat the evil wiz construct, talk to Nordom again. This time when you ask him about the Director and the Field test, you can tell him you are the new Director. Nordom becomes more happy, and gets:
+1 INT
+1 DEX
and you get XP again

Now, if you have high INT or WIS (again 16 or 18), you can ask Nordom about your duties as the new Director. If you ask what the old director was doing, and ask about the Item recovery, you will get some stuff from Nordom. Then, give Nordom some orders. His upgrade will be depending on your class when you do this, and since he's a fighter, the best upgrade will be if you are a fighter also. You need STR 17, and Nordom will get:
-2 INT (doesn't matter, he casts no spells)
+1 DEX
+1 CON
2 better AC

For the last upgrade, you need high CHR, 18 I think. You can convince Nordom to optimise himself by pure willpower. Do the "pep talk", and because of a bug, 2 identical dialogue options will appear. Choose no 2, that one is better! Nordon gains:
+2 STR
+1 CON
+1 luck
2 better AC

I was lucky enough to do this right the first time, my husband messed it in the beginning and never managed to do all the upgrades. The exact stats I got from Dan Simpson's walkthrough. Good luck! :)

EDIT: Sorry to hear that, Rpgeek, the cube isn't too much fun in the long run. I hope you will like Nordom, anyway! :) !

@RPgeek: Sorry for spoiling you :( :D I thought I'd better post the whole thing since Nordom's upgrade can be a bit tricky.

Yes, I believe succubi have horns. Not Grace though, maybe they disappeared since she is fallen? :D :D
