How hard with a druid
How hard with a druid
How hard?
I assume your rather curt question is "How hard is it to finish BGI with a druid". If that is the correct question, my answer is this: To SOLO BGI with a straight druid would be extremely difficult IMHO. Their melee is rather pathetic, armor and weapons are highly restricted, and their spell selection in BGI is not as good as in BGII. You may be saying "Duh, they can't level as high as in BG2", but that's not what I mean, BG2 added some very nice "druid-specific" spells that just aren't there in the first game, even at the lower levels. Insect plague and the lower level one-mob equivalent of that spell (can't remember the name) come to mind.
Otherwise, you can finish the game with any character class and combination of NPCs (and I have). With a Druid I'd get a couple of NPC tanks (Minsc, Khalid, Yeslick, Kagain and Kivan come to mind), and a thief and a mage or two. A cleric wouldn't be necessary for healing, but you could have one if you want. As explained above, druids don't get as many great spells as they do in BG2, but they do get alot more opportunity to use one druid-specific spell which IS in BG1, "call lightning", as there is more outdoor activity. They level pretty high in BG1, IIRC level 10 with the expansion pack.

Actually, druids can wear Ankheg plate in BGI, at least when you have the TotSC expansion.Originally posted by Laurelei:
I have noticed that druids cannot wear ankheg in BG1 either, although I have heard that they can in SoA/ToB. I personally think Raven is speaking to a topic that he/she really knows nothing about

There's nothing a little poison couldn't cure...
What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, ... to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if he people could understand it, it could not be released because of national security.

@Laurelei - It's been a while, but I remember having to download a patch from Bioware to resolve some issues. This might have made some changes to the armor. I have no 3rd party patches applied.

I just went back last night and loaded up that character, just to make sure I wasn't misremembering. She can't for sure use the ankheg plate. I have all the official patches and TOSC installed. Weird? Ah well, she got through just fine and is ready for import into BG2, where she presumably will be able to wear it.
That is wierd. I just took a look at the armor with IE, and according to what I found, druids are not restricted from using this armor. I only have the BGTales5512 patch installed, though.Originally posted by Laurelei:

I went through BG with a Druid.
It wasn't very difficult, but it was painfully obvious that I was the weakest link in my party.
My party consisted of Shar-Teel, Kivan, Ajantis, Safana and Xan.
Unlike BG2, druids can only wear poor armour, there are no really good weapons that druids can use, and their spell selection is abysmal.
You just have to make do with what you've got.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, WATCH IT! I'm HUGE!!
