Wands.. doh I'm stupid

Post by OgreGuy »

I'd played through BG1 several times, yet I'd always assumed from experiences with wands in other games that they were restricted by charges.... now I hear that they're not. &%&$^%&^$#%( I'd always been so reluctant to use em in case they ran out of charges that i never did. Pity me :(

Don't worry, for the longest time I thought the same thing.

lots of items use charges in bg1, wands included. of course you can allways sell them to vendors then buy them back fully recharged if you wish.

I dunno; I remember finding a Wand of Magic Missle early in the game and it petering out not long after. I've since found another one, given it to Dynaheir, whom I have use when she runs out of the spell. I think there *are* charges for the wands.

Now here's a conundrum; in the AD&D rules I remember, Wands were supposed to be equivalent to something like 5th lvl mage and scrolls like a 10th level mage. If my surmise is correct (and I'm willing to be corrected ever so gently), then how come the wand only shoots off one cruddy MM in BG1? I seem to recall that they shoot off more in BG2?

No, they still only shoot one, making them the official cruddy wand. Too bad, really.

BTW, wands use charges in Baldur's Gate, I don't know what you guys are talking about.... When the last charge is used the item disappears. Sell it to a store before that happens and buy it back recharged. I read somewhere that the guy at the Friendly Arm puts more charges on than other merchants.
May you walk on warrrrm sannd....

The Wand of Magic Missiles sure seems crappy compared to the Mage spell, but it can be used by anyone. Even Minsc benefits from firing one after he has made his attacks for the round.

I vaguely recall Wands of Sleep and Fear also being usable by non-Mages... Those things win fights!
