Help game problems

I have installed the game today and tried playing it. However seconds after the game starts my character cycles rapidly between the talk and fight icon and this will not stop!
The game is unplayable, I have tried it with and without TOSC loaded, before and after running the latest patch (v1.3.5508), without the joystick plugged in, no TSR progams (only explorer and systray are running) and it has made no difference.
Equipment: PIII 500, Voodoo3000, 256 mg Ram, SBpci128 soundcard, DX8.0.

Any suggestions as I am now stuck!

The latest patch is BGTalesUS5512, I had a problem with BG2 and my VooDoo3000, just dont make any changes in the config program, it worked for me...
