Problems memorizing the indentify spell

My mage can't memorize the identify spell. Every time I try it fails. Why? Any suggestions?

Specialist mage? I think Conjurer can't learn Divination spells.

Or, you maxed the number of spells per level you can learn.

I had a problem like that. Are you using BG, or BG: TotSC?

It does make a difference. TotSC upgrades BG to the highgest, and depending on where you got your scroll, it's a bug in the game.

Tethtroil's scroll can't be memorized in a non-upgraded version.

Try to use a potion of genius before hand. It might help.
