allrighty, contrary to my beliefs, my friend believes Davorean to be impossible (perhaps he is a bgate scrub, but we will leave that unsaid.) I had a bit of trouble with him, but he is now going on 3 months of unsuccessfulness. Please, all you bgate gods, send your wisdom.

Is he the one in the Cloakwood? If so, I summoned monsters/animated dead to flush him out, cast haste to my party and bashed him. My mage cast magic missiles a couple of times to interrupt him casting at the same time.

Send in a hidden thief to disarm the 4-5 traps in the hallway and scout out where Daeveron is. Daeveron may initiate dialog with the thief, but otherwise will do nothing. I then have my cleric cast silence in his area, summon some monsters to chase him, caste haste, and hit him with those magical arrows that the Black Talon had so thoughtfully dropped.
There's nothing a little poison couldn't cure...

What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, ... to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if he people could understand it, it could not be released because of national security.

The main thing that makes this guy nasty is the protection from normal missiles, and the fact that he Dimension Doors all over the place. If you can sneak up a thief to disarm those traps (the last one will bring the character into range and Davaeorn will initiate dialog), then back up and have a spellcaster fire off a Dispel Magic in his general area (don't get within sight or he'll start DD'ing). That takes down his missile protection. Send your best archers in, his spellcasting should be disrupted by them, and send the tanks in to clean him up. Even better if you have +1 arrows, or the *mage killers* - Arrows of Piercing.

This is a killer fight first time round but it should be a piece of cake by the time you understand what's going on and have your strategies down pat.

I'd just like to note that it is possible to disarm all the traps without revealing yourself to Davaeorn. For the last one, simply hide, then disarm the trap and move back. The hide takes a few seconds to wear off, so you'll have enough time.
