Scimitar's

Post by KaaZe »

If I have read correctly on this site, killing drizzt is the only way to get a scimitar in BG1?.. guess my Jaheira plan just went down the drain then... is this really true?, 2 scimitars in the whole game.?!?

IIRC there is a +2 in ToSC/Durlags Tower - but I don't recall finding one in the plain BG1, sorry.

You don't have to kill Drizzt to get his swords.
IIRC at least one of them (dependend on version of your game) can be pickpocket, the +3 scimitar.

I think I had remember incorrectly regards to Druids and Scimitars. I cant find them anywhere in the manual, so I guess they cant use them anyway.

Druids can use scimitars as the only sword.

I dug out the manual for BG1 and on page 85 under Priests...

Druid: can only wield clubs, darts, spears, daggers, slings, and staffs.

EDIT:

From Bucks walkthru.

BG2.
Druid:
Can only wield Scimitars, Clubs, Darts, Spears, Daggers, Slings, and Staves.

(The manual is wrong on this then..page 88 of the manual for BG2)

There is a skinny dirt path leading up to the top of the plateau located on the south side me thinks. Just look carefully, you'll see it eventually.

In the original BG, Druids could not use swords. With ToSC, scimitars were added and Druids allowed to use them (its a sickle thang :D ).

from memory the scimitar was only added in TOTSC and Drizzt's scimitars were the only ones in the game before that.

One can buy a Scimitar from Winthrop. Although it might cost you 5000!!!! :D :D

It is about 40-80GP i think. Not a bad weapon, faster than a sword, really quite versatile early in the game.

Back to the point of getting one. When you help Drizzt kill gnoles, do not initiate dialogue, save!!!, and use your thief to pock-pocket Drizzt. You will get Scimitar +3 Frostband. Might take seevral tries. And, oh, in plain BG1 druids cannot use scimitars, but if you install TotSC, they can.
Crisis? No, there won't be any crisis next week, my agenda is already full!

The third scimitar in the game is a +2 weapon on top of Durlag's tower.

I still cannot understand what the similarity between scimitars and sickles is... OK, they both have curved blades, but the scimitar is a sword that curves out, while a sickle is a knife that curves in...

And his Defender +5 on another try! Best weapon in the game.

Hmm... The Dagger of Venom is quite powerful in BG1, and easily available. The thing does 20 (!) poison damage every hit. Good for disrupting Mages and generally killing stuff. Excellent alternative for Druids.

I gues that was put in by TotSC, so that if you chose this proficiency for your druid he won't go unarmed for half the game.

That is depending on your game version - in ToSC I could only pick the +3, and then it would say that he had no items.
I also read it somewhere - can't remember where.
